One of the best statistical seasons of all-time and first chip in franchise history (1979 was the Supersonics victory, of course).

Not my cup of tea as a player but you can't deny him.
Witho the refs this thread does not get upped and this dude is just an NBA player, not THE NBA player of the moment

The refs:
  • Rewards his flops with free throws
  • Don't warn him when he looks for contact and flails his arms around
  • Don't call it the same way on the other side and even let LEGIT fouls go all the time
  • Don't get that them calling every little thing for SGA makes defenders back off which gives SGA easy jumpers
  • Don't allow for games where he actually has to do the effort of all other NBA players..
The stats come with a massive asterisk. He's skilled for sure, but constantly flopping and lookin for the call is already hurting and will really hurt his legacy long-term unless a) he stops flopping b) Adam Silver does his job and makes sure this problem is solved with better referee instructions

Imma be real with you: none of that is going to matter. Same way I would say for instance KD is not over Giannis all time because KD took the Steph 73-win stimulus to get two chips while Giannis did it at home, but eventually people will only really hail him for being 2x finals MVP and one of the best scorers ever.

Shai is super fukking talented to the point the arguments about his game won't really carry over long-term. He got a chip. Same way Harden's game during his Rockets heyday would be a bit less scrutinized if it actually got the win. Its been damn 27 years and as a Bulls fan, if I ask a Jazz fan if Jordan pushed off you bet an old head would say yes. People are going to remember what they want but OKC was a 68 win team with a top 3 net rating ever. SGA is just getting the superstar whistle which is annoying when it isn't your guy but amazing when he is AND he is a legit 1-A option on a championship team. SGA is all that.

He was getting the whistle the whole year during the regular season. But during the playoffs the refs swallowed their whistle and he was still dropping 30+ pts. If anyone fails to acknowledge that dude is just good at his craft they're just a pure hater. I mean it's not like he pulled a D Wade and got 18 free throws per game in the finals. He's consistently getting around 7 to 9 free throws. Which is average and okay for a superstar player.

All facts. Let him do a few more seasons like this and you can consider him a generational talent. Nothing ever suggested he would be THIS good but man, he can get a bucket on anyone at his pace and do it with historic efficiency. Hes so damn consistent that seeing him with less than 30 or more than 40 is weird. He wakes up to drop 30+. You really cant give this man enough credit.

He’s been inefficient in the postseason. He went 8/27 in game 7. That’s fukkin terrible. But he pulled off the W anyway on some Kobe shyt. Can’t hate.:manny:
still less inefficient than Jordan (2nd 3 peat) and Kobe (3peat) in the playoffs. So it can’t be that bad.

I keep waiting on this dude to take over a critical game vs a great opponent in the playoffs. He's 7 years into his career and two straight years as a 1-seed. He's going to win MVP and there was so much content this year about him having an All-Time year for a two guard...

Even going back to last year, it's not simply about scoring the ball, where us this guy's impact on the game when his shot ain't falling? And to the point of scoring the ball, every single All-Timer has to pass this test at some point. You gotta be able yo take over a game, and a series, vs a quality opponent...

7 years into his career, yet to see him do it. Great player. He may not be That Guy, though...

The real convo is that it isnt about "that guy" anymore. Moreso than ever in most of our lifetimes it is an actual team game. Everybody gotta contribute on both ends. The zone and the 3 (and all of the financial measures put in place culminating in the aprons) have changed the game and we gotta catch up to what it is now. We so used to just reflexively making it about "that guy".
