Shameful and embarrassing how NYC artists and fans are stooping so low for music relevence.

You weirdos are obsessed with New York

I have yet to see a thread about how 21 savage sounds nothing like goodie mob or how schoolboy q doesn't make G funk or how Midwest has zero identity and hops on whatever sound is hot
Midwest doesn't have identity ? :camby:

Kevin Gates don't get play in NY, he's not a popular rapper among youth here. Why you comparing them what similiarities they got other than being tatted and Rican? You're basing Young M.A. off one track a lot of her shyt is very "traditional"...

This is Kevin Gates to you? :dahell:

NY Bloods are different from Cali Bloods. United Blood Nation was founded in Rikers Island in the early 90's so inmates could protect themselves from other gangs. I mean we're talking about a gang that's existed in NY for damn near 25 years. I remember growing up my moms would tell me to be careful on Halloween because Bloods would slice people for initiation. This is a part of NY street culture.

Regionalism is dead because it doesn't matter where you're from anymore. Slang and all that has spread nationwide. This is the internet age. If it's not dead why do so many artists sound like they from somewhere else?

-you said A Boogie sounds midwestern like Dej Loaf, when Dej isn't a traditional Detroit artist and can be categorized as Southern. I know Detroit for having rappers that can spit like Eminem and Dilla beats...

-you yourself said Drake was a Canadian who got hot off a Southern style. From what I've seen Toronto rappers pre-Drake rapped in a street NY punchline style...

-you said Shmurda bit Keef when Keef is from Chicago. If I'm not mistaken Chicago was known for neo soul rap like Kanye/Lupe/Common and fast spitters like Twista/Do or Die/Crucial Conflict. Keef makes drill which is basically trap music with Chicago gang banging thrown in...

If you really think about it you're contradicting yourself...

These dudes aren't trying to sound like anyone they're a reflection of the times. A Boogie "My shyt" is what a NY hit record sounds like in 2016. All these kids are a representation of NY.

I don't know why you say Gates is popular in the NY I just find that unlikely, he's legit the most popular the last 3 years after Drake

Exactly.

If you were wack, biting, or even soft by Hip Hop standards, dudes would come to your show and literally throw you off the stage. I remember Nas saying that Marley Marl told him that he sounded too much like G Rap early on, so he didn't want anyone to hear him again until he sounded more like himself. Dude became one of the best ever. You followed the rules and respected them. Today, a dude will watch videos for a year, and then come out sounding just like his favorite rapper, and he'll get by being a clone. Hip Hop lets a lot of wackness slip through the cracks these days.

So he came back with a rakim flow, g raps rhyme schemes, and a dash of his own vivid poetic lines :troll:

Cities all over the country have young rappers biting the mainstream sound, I'm not sure why yall expected 18 yr olds from NY to be any different.

I guess on some level yall still hold NY in higher esteem. Thats good to know.

So I guess NYers who "hated on other regions" when dudes started biting their style (rap is NY style) they had a good reason?
