First, shouldn't have laughed at you.
I am a firm believer that all racism stems from tribalism over the allocation of resources. Self > Family > Tribe > Race > Nation (and one day, planet). So, at each socioeconomic level, the biases based on race over those resources (money, land, even time) still apply.
Now, as I have progressed socioeconomically, what happens is, when you're in those clubs and networks, you are kind of "vetted". You're 'one of us' in some ways, because you have enough money to be in the Tennis Club of golf course or are politically connected enough to be at the private event. But, within that crowd, you're still 'one of them'. You probably have to prove your position more...you are assumed not to be generational like 'one of us'. People ask about what you do and what not because they're trying to figure out why you're there...Money does not erase those biases.
I believe that Shaq, and others convince themselves they're in the club...like all of the black Republicans who carried Trump's bags during the campaign and don't get any jobs...they will and do get their wakeup call along the way.
That is why I responded that why ...those millionaires care imo.
