Brehs, I've been looking at his numbers and remembering just how good The Matrix was in his prime. Now the question I wanna pose to y'all is, does Shawn Marion belong in the basketball Hall of Fame? Now remember the standards aren't insanely high for making it. Here are his career numbers:

Now I know I'm gonna get a bunch of MJ laughing smilies and GIFs but this is a serious question and I'd like to spark some serious debate on this. I'm sick of all these Bron and Kobe threads. Let's switch the topic up for once. I know most people will say no but I'm having a hard time deciding if he should make it or not.

I wanna say yes but probably not...his level of importantce to those Suns team was right there with Nash and Amare. And he helped the Mavs win the championship...

He was never the best player on any team he played on though, perhaps if he averaged 20 or more points a game for a few more years of his career

I said in another thread that Shawn Marion is just barely going to miss out on being a Hall of Famer. Statistically he's there, he has the longevity, plus he's won a championship and played on mostly playoff teams.

On the other side though, he was never the best player on his own team, was routinely the third or fourth best player on his own squad, doesn't have much fanfare or notoriety, has no real signature moments in his career, and is actually a pretty forgettable player overall.

I will say this though, if you were going to have an all-time draft of NBA players, Marion would get picked before A LOT of Hall of Famers. And if defense was valued as much as offense in basketball, he'd have an even stronger case.

Is this a Joke? he's only been to 4 all star games, Won 1 Championship, NEVER even Been a 2nd Team All NBA, Never been the best at anything in the league cracked the 20PPg twice in his whole career and he has a 12.5ppg 6.5 Rpg and 3 assists per game career line.... :beli:

Can you explain this? when you say "Statistically he's there" what do u mean? in your world what are statistics that will get you in the HOF?

I said statistically he's there because just based on numbers he is/was better than a lot of the players that are already in the Hall.

He was usually in that 10-12 rebound range, in the 17-22 point range, he shot good percentages from the field, was usually amongst the league leaders in steals.

TBH with you though, looking at his stats just now I still think he's a fringe HOF guy but I'm less confident than I was before I checked the actual numbers. :yeshrug:

To be fair, his career averages are 16/9/2/1.6/1.1 with good shooting percentages.

To me, he always seemed as a player who wasn't as good as his stats. He averaged nearly 22/12/2/2/2 that year Stoudemire was injured but no one was thinking of him as elite. He's def not a first, 2nd or 3rd ballot and with players that still didn't get into the HOF he'll either take a long ass time to get in or not all and that's what I suspect.
