he's correct about it musically.

also, record labels abandoned Black artists and made R&B white(Timberlake, Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, etc...) and those people are simply mimicking what they think Black people sound like and they approach R&B/Pop from a formula standpoint. Lab Grown Artists.

Record labels didn’t abandon black artists. What they did was cut costs.

Notice how so many big time artists from our past were originally tied to a group or a band. If they weren’t then the record label they signed with had in house bands and producers the artists would work with to cultivate their sound. It takes time and money to keep all those people around. When you listen to old stories about how classic songs came about about lots of times it’s from jam sessions where the band was just playing and someone heard something.

Record labels don’t want to pay all those people anymore, or keep them on staff. So they have the artist and they pay for a camp where people craft songs for a week, and whatever comes out of that is what’s on the album. And since they are doing that for all their artists the music sounds the same since the same mercenary producers are just going from camp to camp.

I was going to say because there’s a lack of actual love in music today, but seems like he’s talking about the sound specifically.

I don’t disagree though. Things are done differently from that 90’s sound

Giveon the only current male R&B artist that somewhat scratches that same itch old R&B artists did (to me)

Especially on his newest album :wow:

Not vocally, i’m talking content of his songs

Heard of him and got a few of his tracks, but will check him out.

shyt.. it might be a legit executive/business decision to try not to fall “in love” out here these days.

Really wondering if that exists out here now.. or maybe I’m being pessimistic

You're right about record labels, however I would argue the dynamic vocal components that he is mentioning that is lost in today's music is there in Timberlake's early stuff and especially in Sam Smith's and Adele's (not familiar enough with Ed Sheeran).

The ability to make songs in the bedroom and then put it on a streaming services and having it blow up allowed singers to bypass the people in the business that understand the technical side of song making.

Now you got a punch of struggle singers sounding the same with laughable vocal range. Now that is all younger people know and they think it sounds good so now there is no incentive to change that

When I found out a lot of current producers are just mainly using loops other people created :snoop:
