what part of what I said makes you think I believe all business owners are rich and what conclusions were made? To say businesses are closing down because of a law that is years in the future is ridicules. Either way it's the law so they can either follow it or close down. The people that work in the restaurant business are some of the hardest working people in America nothing wrong with them getting paid on the scale of Thier productivity.No, not really. This will probably affect your third and fourth income earners in a household (teenagers, part time workers).
It is what it is, the law hasn't even taken effect and you guys are drawing all sorts of conclusions about it
And from what I've seen in here a lot of you somehow think because you own a business that automatically makes you rich.

The biggest impact however, is less direct. If the FLOOR for Seattle jobs is $15 then the lowest of ALL jobs get paid that.....everyone will want more money...
I've discussed this ad nauseum but the combo of higher transportation costs (bus fees gone up significantly) higher rental cost, higher costs for staple goods as I outlined above, will out pace any positive impact of the $15 wage
As well as the fact that "exempt" organizations like non profits and small businesses will struggle to keep and recruit talent so in effect...there ARE NO exempt organizations.
We are going to watch the results of hyperliberal voting and culture in Seattle over the next five years as I have over the previous.
If socialist council member sawant runs for mayor or govenor and gets elected, I'm done.

It will but more as a result of the main industries in Seattle (tech, engineering, law/professional services, trade import/export) not having a strong black presence whatsoever. They have high MINORITY participation thus the "diverse" label Seattle gets but when you look at the pie chart there isn't much black berry there.I wonder if the black population will begin to dwindle in Seattle like it has in San Francisco...

There's no evidence that the minimum wage law was the main or even a major reason behind the closing of these restaurants.
But there's already ample evidence that raising the minimum wage doesn't hurt job growth like neoliberals would like you to believe. And with as much people talking about the death of small businesses, the states with the largest minimum wage continue to have a great growth in small business employment.
And it's interesting that when it comes to matters of minimum wage (or any worker benefits) you see the same ideologues go on and on about the damage to small businesses, but in discussions about NAFTA, or TPP, or other policies that actually kill small businesses, their supreme concern for small businesses goes out of the window in favor of defending the rights of mammoth, unaccountable corporations.
I don't know why people continue to parrot this outdated narrative. Most of the low-wage workers that would benefit from an increase in the minimum wage are adults and many are supporting families.

...and just to be clear we are talking about 4% of the work force correct? or has the percentage of workers earning min wage gone up? and if so, whats it at? 8%?
Its simple: the greedy CEO can't adjust cutting back 20% of their huge bonuses, so they overwork their employees.

After President Obama called for states to raise their minimum wages in his 2013 State of the Union, 10 of them took him up on the challenge by raising their wages last year, so many that the majority of states now have a higher wage than the federal level of $7.25 an hour.
But in Nevada, state Sen. Joe Hardy (R) wants to move in the other direction. He’s introduced legislation that would repeal the state’s minimum wage, currently set at $8.25 for those who don’t get health benefits. In 2006, the state’s voters approved a constitutional amendment that sets a standard minimum wage, but Hardy’s resolution would repeal it and give the legislature the ability to control the wage.
Even if they don’t have a higher wage than the federal floor, the vast majority of states at least have set one. Five have no minimum wage law — Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Tennessee — while two, Georgia and Wyoming, have set theirs lower than $7.25. Even so, the federal minimum takes precedence, so employers in these states still have to pay employees at least that much.
Some other states have also considered reducing, rather than raising, their wages. In February, a South Dakota state committee approved a proposal that would allow its minimum wage to decrease, erasing a provision of a wage hike approved by voters that bars it from falling. Other states are considering lower wages for certain groups, liketipped workers or young people.
Hardy’s Democratic colleagues, however, have a very different idea. State Sen. Tick Segerblom (D) has sponsored legislation that would raise the constitutional minimum wage to $15 an hour for those without health insurance. A $15 wage is still rare but starting to gain traction after striking fast food workers have called to be paid at least that much. Seattle and San Francisco have increased their wages to that level, whilePortland increased the wage for city workers to that much, and it’s under consideration in Oregon, New York City, Los Angeles, and Chicago.
The federal minimum wage, meanwhile, hasn’t been raised in six years, despite Congressional Democrats introducing increases multiple times. If it had kept up with inflation, it would be more than $10 an hour, and if it had kept up with rising worker productivity, it would be more than $20.
