Ocala police officials on Thursday released a video of a wild July shootout that injured two men embroiled in a longtime feud.
The surveillance video, captured on a home-recording system on July 19, shows a vehicle pull into the 2000 block of Southwest Fourth Street and men police identified as Jeffrey Todd Aaron and Marc Williams get out. Soon thereafter, a pickup truck arrived and Jeremy Willis gets out.
More people later show up in a truck.
Later, Aaron and Willis are seen outside arguing. Aaron had a rifle, later identified as an AR-15, behind him, investigators reported.
The two continued to argue and Aaron slowly moved the gun to the side of his body. The altercation escalated, and suddenly Willis is seen shooting at Aaron, who ducked, ran to the back of the nearby residence and — wounded — fired shots at Willis, according to the video.
The video shows Aaron with a red spot on his upper body as he was running.
As the shooting stopped, Aaron returns to the scene, this time from the back of the residence; he is seen firing rounds into a wooden fence. As he was shooting, people who were near a nearby truck take cover, according to the video.
Aaron and Willis were arrested and face multiple charges, including attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Aaron was taken into custody on Tuesday on a warrant prepared by Ocala Police Department detectives.
On Wednesday, Willis' attorney called a detective and said his client was going to turn himself in but not make a statement. Marion County records show Willis was booked in the jail at 1 a.m. Thursday.
Williams was arrested by detectives in mid August and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Detectives contend he was seen on the video holding a handgun.
Authorities said they believe the shooting was the result of a long-standing feud between Willis and Aaron.
After the shooting, Aaron left in a vehicle that crashed not far from the incident location. He was picked up and taken to Ocala Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Willis also was taken to ORMC for medical treatment.
Officers were notified about the shooting after Willis and Aaron were at the hospital, according to reports. At the time, police did not have enough evidence to arrest the men.
Since then, investigators recovered evidence, interviewed witnesses and examined the video. Detectives obtained a search warrant for the home where the shooting occurred and found the rifle and other evidence, according to Ocala police.
