Should Educated/Wealthy Blacks do More to Help The Community

to answer OP question, yes they should, BUT so should everyone else...

I think the underlying problem is that our PRIDE has died...Other ethnic groups instill a pride about their culture and people...we USED to have that but gone are the MLKs, the Malcom X's and Rosa Parks...gone are the sit ins, peaceful rallies and such...we FEEL like we've come so far but yet, we have barely scratched the surface...


We are ALL in this together, so we ALL have to pitch in, rich, poor, everybody...We have to begin to get that "Black Pride" we used to have, not anything flagrant and offensive, but that "pride" that made you feel good about being black...THAT'S when we can start building back the communities...We've become like kids...we can do well with supervision (MLK, Malcom, etc) but when they're gone or dead, we're regressing back (maybe even further) to where we were...

start local, nobody saying you gonna save EVERY black man, woman, and child...but it starts with you, then your circle, then your community, so on and so on...that's power right there

Why just the educated. There are men in poor communities who have a better chance of reaching the youth if they all stand up together to save the babies but no, friends would rather make moeny with frivilous business deals and having demonic relationships with women.

this is a tricky subject because you're asking if they should do more, which implies they're doing something but it's not enough given our current situation. you have to first consider what they've done (if anything) and if it's enough. frankly, i don't think it's all about considering what they've done act for act. in general there isn't a spirit of assistance being instilled in people unless it comes with a reward for the giver or some recognition, notoriety or credit given to the giver. people really don't give with the intention of just doing that. and i think that's where the problem lies...

I'm talking about kids from the 2-parent homes in the burbs as well. shyt, even white kids were emulating rappers back in the early 00s thanks to Eminem. Even today, out of every Obama or Neil DeGrasse Tyson, you have mad black entertainers that don't stand for shyt outside of money. Its a media thing, not just an environmental one.

Media plays a very large part in shaping our culture today.

I somehow think alot of us really believe the political process is going to work for us without us doing the action to effect it. i.e. Lobbying firms etc. We have to realize that white people are NOT going to change and do it for us. Only reason we got what we have now is because WE did it. White people were made to give us our freedom and civil rights....if we don't MAKE it happen it ain't gonna happen.

I gotta disagree. Everybody gets clowned in highschool that's not a good reason not to help your community. None of us made it to success without the help of those before us, so if you do find success it's only fair that you reach back and help the less fortunate. In my opinion the only way to get the community to stop glorifying the wrong things, is to reach back and SHOW them the right things. The poor glorify drug dealers and rappers because they are the only ones who find success but stay visable in the community. It only takes a successful black man to step back into his community and show the kids how he made that success to change lives and outlooks.

Why should you help someone who won't help themselves?

If they came from the same community what resources did one have available that the other didn't?

The people before you paved the way for your success, without them you would have no success. So why don't you feel that you should help those that come after you?

I think leading by example is best at this point. If there were more positive role models out there I think it would be more ideal to do the right thing. But I do agree with what you're say as well...just not 100%

Well that's all I said was that people should go back to their communities and be positive roll models.

I don't know where you get this "people don't want to help themselves" idea from. As I said before I run a youth empowerment program and they really appreciate me. These kids are starving for some one to care and to guide them and they really gravitate to me and try their best at what we talk about. All we need is people to go back and show these kids hope, and they will find the motivation to become succesful.

That's entirely untrue. Just the other day I had to insult another poster who was disrespecting so called uppity black people. Mind you that these same uppity black people helped him obtain a job. There's an arrogance level amongst the have nots that is very perplexing. To quote Anton Chigurh from No Country For Old Men

"If the rule you followed brought you to this, what use was the rule?"

Chigurh said that to a man he was about to kill. I ask you all if the philosophy of life brought you to your current station, what was the point? Are you satisfied with the results? You should probably try an entirely different way or at least mimic the behavior of successful people.

Here you have a group of people talking down on others who provide employment, economic advancement and pride to a people. Are you capable of doing better? These are sobering questions. All I have seen is a group of people continuously talk about the lack of opportunities when there is a lack of the opportunistic. We all can do better but for those who are struggling they need to do better more than ever.
