Should EMINEM have released "Recovery" First for the radio and "Relapse" second for the heads??

No.

Ideally, Relapse wouldn't have given Interscope reason to adjust the game plan and he should have just dropped the 2nd disc. "Recovery" or an album like it, where he's kind of deliberately trying to attempt top 40 pop hits here and there should have been saved for a time like this where the "he can sell with anything" notion is starting to wear off. Now you got him doing songs with Adele and Ed Sheran and doing "relapse" type songs in the middle of the album without context.

Finish your contract, move to Def Jam so you can just rap without all the fanfare and your artists have a shot to drop a project.

well tbh i didnt listen to any eminem album post - recovery.

but its like, recovery wouldve satisfied the label.

relapse wouldve been cool for the heads and like, who knows, he wouldve kept expirementing.

Relapse would've been better without the serial killer theme, if he dissed the rappers he said he was gonna do on Recovery them it might've been better. The content of that album is unlistenable.

I feel like I'm missing the consensus here.... sounds like most cats in this thread hated Recovery. I enjoyed that way more than Relapse from a song perspective. Sure, Em was rapping his ass off on Relapse, but those joints didn't have great replayability IMO.

Relapse was dope minus that trash first single. Recovery was too cac even for Em.

Recovery only exists because Relapse didn't do MMLP/Eminem Show numbers. Having Recovery be the first album back would be such a jarring shift tonally from what he was doing before that fans would have rejected it entirely.

Relapse was the last album that somewhat felt like the old Eminem. It had to exist so Recovery could come later and introduce the new Eminem.

Relapse is polarizing, it's honestly my favorite overall Eminem album, some people hate it but that's the last real Eminem album as far as I'm concerned.

Imagine a mainstream rapper trying to drop an album like this

in 2010...That kind of stuff is usually reserved for underground rap. Em really is an underground rapper that gets marketed as a pop star because he's white.

Recovery was an album that a lot of people who weren't really Eminem fans like that enjoyed because it sounded more like other rap that was out.
