some major national law firm has a large office in some small town in West Virginia and they have a summer associate position that just opened up. All the top students from top schools already have jobs so I wouldn't have much competition plus no one wants to work in butt fukk West Virginia.

However, the city has less than 30k and is 90% cac. There is a chance I could be lynched and it is likely being unemployed in Chicago is a better standard of living than making a couple thousand a week in West Virginia.

No. I'm all for job opportunities, that's not it- anyplace but Hillbilly Haven. Cac Coal Mine central. There are no black people there. None. Nothing but white townies. Rebel flags hanging out. And whatever image you see on tv of that state, it's worse. No exaggeration. Mess around and make a Wrong Turn, that's it. Not worth the risk. I attended some type of minority student conference at WVU long time ago, nahhh, never again. Their state food is pepperoni rolls and mountain dew. I had an SUV at the time, got stuck on a mountain, shifting gears, had my car towed to a w.v. mechanic. Never went back for it- took the L. All types of road sign warnings like- "watch out for falling rocks and boulders" bc you are literally driving on mountains. Better off looking at towns adjacent in Western Maryland or Virginia.

If you are facing tough competition and it’s only for a summer I say go for it.

You’ll truly hate West Virginia tho. Over 90% cac.

I was having the same feeling about applying to JP Morgan jobs in Delaware which I believe are less competitive than the ones in New York and Jersey City.

I never mentioned anything about Delaware’s demographics I’m just saying Delaware similar to WV isn’t a place young people want to flock to after college for careers.

But I’m considering it again since I’m getting tired of Temp work and looking for something permanent.

Man law is just tough like that. What kind of book of business can you get in a town of 30k? Is this company representing coal miners?

Do you have a science background? Because maybe you can go into patent law. Set up shop in DC. I've seen the rates they're charging the company I work and it's fukking outrageous :sadcam:

Wheeling isn’t that bad, just met w/ this fine older Black judge from there.
You’ll be absolutely fine, get those big lit or M&A cases on your CV, pick up that bonus, pay off everything, and lateral in a few years, or go to a FedClerkship, then take the $150k bonus and hit DC/NY.

Don’t listen to people thatve never been there before, it’s an opportunity you should absolutely exploit.

You don’t get a book of business in BigLaw until you end up partner.
