BJJ or Muay Tai or Boxing. If not either of the three then go home. Those three are worth more your money than Karate. Me personally I would chose BJJ.

Also NOT ONLY is BJJ more worth it than Karate but the class are MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH funner. Trust me when I use to do BJJ, this karate class would go first and I would wait for it to be over. The class looked like a boring ass drill class just doing kicks and what not. The reason why BJJ and boxing are more effective is because there are actually sparring. The sparring in BJJ is fun. Its fun getting your ass kicked when your are new, but heres the thing...Get your ass kicked by a very good partner makes you learn faster.

You should ALWAYS be your OWN weapon, in the event that you are not WITH your firearm. Boxing/MMA will do that for you, you'll be a walking weapon.

I have zero experience in the marital arts. Is it a good idea to join karate? or other forms of fighting such as boxing?

or is it wise to just buy a gun for self protection along with a vest? that seems the most logically thing.
