should i read the dictionary or more novels to expand my vocabulary when i rap

i was watching this old Jay Z documentary from VH1 on YouTube and i noticed that he would study the dictionary to learn new words or to just expand his vocabulary. i actually wanted to do this for two reasons, one is to sound more sophisticated to people and the second and main reason is to have more words to rhyme with/get better.

i mean this sounds better ..

just read shyt that interests you. youll always find words that you need to look up and youll already have context for it

i know but lately i been having writer's block for some reason. maybe it's because i need some new words to rhyme with

read what interests you so you dont have to force yourself. anything

i read a lot about media literacy and i get a lot of perspective and some vocab from that, non fiction, information, self improvement, novels, whatever. its the language mastery and exercising the imagination thats important, not just learning indivdual words

Lupe fiasco and canibus are equal in the vocabulary but lupe the better song writer and more creative

There's a lot of other rappers that sound like they read a lot

Hiero, black star, Lauryn hill etc

I would suggest reading some books that you normally wouldn't...like some Dostoyevsky, for example. You'll learn some new words plus be introduced to concepts you'd never would've been put onto if you were just reading the dictionary.
