And do y’all think that it has contributed to the uptick in school shootings over the years? :patrice:

Violent entertainment has been around, and this magically doesn't happen in other countries with the same access to the same media we got. Before video games it was hip hop, and before hip hop it was rock n roll. VGs are just the next scapegoat

"Should" and "Can" are different questions.

Of course you "should" shield children from violent or adult content. However, a question of CAN youth be exposed to these images and still be sane? The data say overwhelmingly yes.

There no study (at least that I've seen or heard of) that can unequivocally state a correlation between violent video games and violent behavior. This is a tired argument that's been trotted out for damn near 25-30 years. Its why the ESRB and game ratings even came about.

Violent games and films been out for much longer than this trend of school shootings has been, so we need to look at a multitude of OTHER more immediate factors. I.e. the availability of guns, total removal of school counseling, etc.

Should they?

Yes. depending on age, guidance from parents, the maturity of the child. The kid should be ok.

And violent media is a reflection of our violent world, not the cause for the violence.

I remember when mortal kombat was under fire for all the gore and shyt. Early 90s.
I'd let my child play Mortal Kombat before GTA tho. Lets be real there is still a difference between realistic violence and fantasy violence. As ill as it is to sever someones spine with your hands. It's totally different than gunning down civilians in the middle of the city.

For people disagreeing, why we didn’t we see mass school shootings while our parents and grandparents were in school in the 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s & 70s? If violent games/tv/movies have no effect here, then there should have always been mass shootings at schools but that obviously wasn’t the case. What changed between then and now?

I was watching shyt like this before the age of 10, school shootings mainly come from how cruel children are to each other, some kids get picked on and harassed more than others, like a said before in school kids act like prison inmates.
