While he doesn't have the political background to run, Jon Stewart is widely viewed as one of the most trusted people in media. Even as a comedian he is viewed as a modern day Edward Murrow or Walter Kronkite.
It's not my problem if a bunch of uncultured goons here who base their political knowledge on the soundbite of the day don't know any better.
That's not to say he's the best man for the job. But public image is everything for those wanting to run. And he's got it.
