Let me say this.
I remember when the NJ,Philly, and DC rappers in the 80s were coming out with records, but were dissed by NY rappers and NY Hip Hop usual suspects.
I remember when West Coast came out with G-Funk and Gangsta Rap in the late 80s and early 90s,it catapulted the popularity of Hip Hop but it was consider nonsense by NYC hip hop ethusiast.Even before G-Funk, Hammer, Tone Loc, and King Tee were considered jokes.
Then in the early 2000s when the South came out with Crunk ,there was a fun atmosphere for everybody and every coast ,whether West, Midwest and even East Coast/NY artists played with the genre. Despite some NY rappers making Crunk influenced or Crunk based songs(i.e. Diplomats,G-Unit), yet Crunk was still scrutinized and shunned by NY industry insiders.
Now today, when Chicago and the Midwest are coming out with Drill Music, its a problem ,irrespective of the fact it has a good buzz and could give Hip Hop CPR. Let´s not forget that NY artist like Bobby Smurda are doing Drill .But Chi-town Chief Keef are getting hated on.
So I am wondering if Hip Hop is just supposed to be a NYC thing? On top of the fact that during Hip Hops financial success of Late 90s and early 2000s,we only see labels like Rocafella,Bad Boy,Diplomat Records,D-Bloc, Terror Squad, Ruff Ryders, and G-Unit reap the benefits ,when other non-NYC labels didn´t really reap the prosperity of the Golden Era.
Then its the business aspect of Hip Hop. No matter where you from,a lot of bullshyt tactics seep into the Industry that demoralizes new artists.
I think of hip hop being so cutthroat, many artists and producers were stiffled out of funds, jerked, ripped off, and whored out than most of the previous black genres of,Soul,Funk and R&B.These cutthroat tactics are done by white corporate heads, but black coroporate figures use these dirty moves too and are even more scandalous with it than white boys.Facts
Say what you want but I just had to post this up.
