Hows the band gonna get paid?

It already is free... ever heard of Livemixtapes?

At some point in the future all music will be free... The only people making music will be the people truly in it for the love of it.
Technology will make it to where it aint no choice but for it to be free.

Should it? No. Is it? Basically yes.

It's too late to go back now, artists will just have to find some way to adapt.

Should it be? NO
Is it free? Yes, that's why people don't want to pay for it anymore . when I was 10 to about 15 I did buy CDs that was my thing. But that was when I had no choice (no computer ain't know how to download it anyways). I am so used to being able to get song for free it's like why pay for it? Eventually I started to download all the time. I topped out at about 1200 songs on my iPod touch back when I used to use it regularly. Now I don't really care that much for downloading. I can stream it and I still don't have to pay. So why should I pay now?

According to what Ive heard artist say, is that the bulk of income never really came from music sales anyways.

we've already reached the point proving this to be false. Fans of artists will purchase their shyt, there's street performers that make a decent living

Silly question as music is literally free. Of course there are inherent costs such as players, headphones and internet to aid the acquisition of said free music.

I'd like to shift the conversation towards revenue gaining options for artists.

Artists should release free music in smaller (albeit more frequent quantities). (Split that 20 song mixtape into two mixtapes.)

Tour with like drawing artists. (There is no reason why there aren't more tours with 3 to 5 artists with similar demographics making money together live.)

Encourage fans to buy your "for sale" music. (I hate to see artists praising the illegal acquisition of their on the of chance that "fans" will support later on down the road.)

I still buy cds, especially when I know samples had to be paid for, producers have to be paid for...just facts.

None of my favorite rappers are signed to majors, but when they drop an indie album, I still cop.
