Well, there's two answers for that.

1. No, just because Bill Belichick believes the League should do away with it doesn't mean the whole NFL needs to follow.
2. No, it's a long-standing part of the game. But, I think it would be more interesting if they had the kicker attempt it from farther away. It would still allow the offensive side to attempt a 2-pointer but the strategies to employ that would be altered due to the increased distance.

Foot + Ball = Foot kicking a Ball = Kickers = Kickers are the only legitimate FootBall players.
