If your career is still thriving and you're still pumpin' out good, relevant music without soundin' like the old guy tryin' to catch up... then by all means, a nikka could be over 40 and still do his thing. Not much of it will probably resonate with the Young Thug/Migos crowd, but any rapper that's been around since the 90s or so shouldn't aspire to compete with those type of muhfukkas anyway. At that point in one's career, their only true competition should be themselves. A Nas or Jay or Andre, Q-Tip, whoever... they don't need to try matching what the hot nikka of the month (no pun intended) is doing, or trying to rehash shyt they did years ago. Their aim should just be making quality music at this present time. It's not an age thing... even if listeners know a dude's on his way up in age, who the fukk's really gonna deny some shyt that sounds good to them cause of how old the artist is? 40 in 2014 ain't what 40 was in say 1992. If you were 40 and rappin' back then, yeah you'd probably look/sound old as shyt. 40 year olds now are nikkas that came up in rap's best eras and have grown up listening/doing it since they were kids.

Nas is currently doing grown man rap the best right now. Cats like Cam and Camel are just sullying their legacies with every new album they do

Nah that's one of the things that makes jay the nicest. He's older than all these cats but still sounds younger and fresher than 90 percent of em, still settin trends and still namin hard to pronounce shyt you ain't never heard about. No different than when he first set foot in the game.:salute:

But question is how long could young Hov stay bein the youngest?:mjpls:

Like what if he's 65 years old still makin music like bruce Springsteen. does he keep it up?

Like at what point does young Hov start rappin like old Hov and start treatin these nikkas like they his grandchildren? Threatening to spank them over his knee if they step out of line and shyt:pachaha:.

People be actin' like if Jay get on a track with a new nikka, he's gettin' dusted... negative. There's no way anybody's gonna tell me a nikka like Young Thug is dope but fukkin' JAY Z should quit.

If you 40 and trying to follow 20 old kid trends then yeah hang it up.

honestly if most of the older rapper just rapped about life instead of trying to chase hits at 40 the rap game would have a bunch of great music. Scarface can rap till he's 50 if he keeps dropping knowledge.

I think snoop has a pretty good idea of how to make a album as a old man in the game.
