i dont remember one instance where this helped a team win a game :manny:

scott brooked looked like a fukking idiot last night.

Bc Asik was making his free throws. If Asik choked it up Brooks woulda looked like a Genius. It was a gamble that failed miserably.

Brooks just stuck with it too long and fukked up his own offensive rhythm. After Sefolosha (I think) hit that 3 with about 4 minutes left he shoulda abandoned it.

Free throws are a basic fundamental. If you chose to not practice it then be prepared to suffer the consequences.

I think it makes the game more interesting, seeing if the player can make it under the pressure.

He made 8-12. He shoots 54 percent. Even he shot his average and make 6-12 it would not have made a difference.

Hack-a-whoever is just bad math.

It would have if they executed on offense, but they didnt run half court sets. Which he should have since there was no transition hoops available on a post FT inbound

It would have made a difference if he missed 2 more. The Thunder got the lead down to 6 during the hack period, you telling me if it went down to 4 it wouldn't have made a difference?

Focus on numbers for a second. If you're Brooks in that circumstance, then you have to think as follows: By hacking goofy Asic, we have to expect him to make 54 percent of his free throws. That is equivalent to shooting 54 percent from the field. So Brooks had to be thinking that the thunder could shoot 65 percent or better in order to make up the deficit.

That's a stupid calculation on his part, period. (assuming he was actually thinking)

Pretty much. Read my response, above. Unless the Thunder were shooting 65 percent or better, it was stupid strategy to begin with.

This is why you have to focus on defense. IF you want to play the hacking game, you have to aim at a 30 percent free throw shooter. I think the lowest FT shooter I've seen was 38 percent.

if you let a player get to the line 10 time in a row eventually they are gonna get into a rhythm and start shooting a slightly higher percentage.

This strategy only works if you use just on key possessions. If you have the lead late in the game and don't want a team splashing threes to catch up. that would be a good time to use it. but if youre behind double digits that shyt isn't gonna help you catch up. because between missed field goals and made field goals most teams only average 1 point per possession over the course of a game. so putting a 50% ft shooter at line each trip basically does nothing.

Technically, it's a sound strategy when done right. But it slows the game down too at the same time. I can't say if they should get rid of it or not because it works from time to time. But it is annoying to see a poor free throw shooter like Dwight go to the line 25 times on some nights.
