honestly that is the biggest 'missed opportunity' heel stables ever. The Rumble run as SES heel was legendary...until you know who ended it.Punk was ahead of his time. The Straight Edge Society run was legit, just because he took it so far. That Bible Belt heat
its weird the more i talk about this and whatnot, the whole "HHH hates bryan and is burying him thing" however true or not is like...100% accurate for punk, he was THE HEEL who constantly destroyed cm punk and if not he sent his #1 soldier RKO to do so and strip the belt....

i'm just saying that the superlatives about bryan being a trailblazer and pioneer are somewhat erroneous when punk was the one who cut down the trees and paved the asphalt to quote Roddy Piper. Bryan deserves his accolades for getting so over but we can't gloss over the steep hill CM Punk climbed.But no one is though.

I agree with the premise of the thread. Now that I think about it, was Punk ever given the same kind of credit that D Bry is getting now?
And I think that the OP should keep in mind, the way that Punk was forced out of wrestling might've had something to do with it. D Bry was able to retire on a good note, Punk's exit from wrestling wasn't as pleasant (A good portion of the IWC hated his guts)

It also doesn't help that Punk openly shyts on wrestling and is very bitter about it (Not that I blame him, after everything he went through). That put him in a bad position with the marks and the company, which is a shame.

That's true, Punk was the first of the ROH golden era guys to make it big in WWE and he changed the narrative within WWE. However, I do think Punk and Bryan becoming popular with the casuals in 2011 (Punk was already popular but that pipebomb really got him another stratosphere) helped usher in the signing of guys like Black, Generico, Steen, Hero etc...

I doubt that, simply because of the talent that is young and on the rise...Kevin Owens being a top tier heel and dean ambrose being more steve austin than mikey whipwreck is an indicator.

After hearing all the stories, I kind of understand why HHH reacted the way he did, though. If Punk's goes on to reach his full potential (or in an extreme case becomes 'the face of the company') it's another nail in the coffin of the idea that 'larger than life' big men are the only characters that can be on top.
Of course Vince wouldn't let that happen, but why even give him a chance to second guess himself.
