Lets bring it back to the curriculum in grade schools first. Americans have dumbed down when it comes to politics for a reason. If people truly understood how politics works this country would be completely different.

And how do we’ll do you think it would be taught in predominately black public schools?

Keeping my overhead low, and my understand high
In afterthought, a test wouldn't pass Constitutional muster.

But, a course, would. Just make new voters take an 8 hour Civics crash course.

Teach the basic structure, how to vote, how to get information, and how to avoid misinformation.

and, as an incentive, pay them $100 for their time.

Any kind of civics class would devolve or be co-opted by political parties.

Internet/ social media voting might be better.

I think at its core, the idea of any type of test as a prerequisite to voting (sans a sobriety test :mjlit:) is inherently disenfranchising.

But to save the damn country and possibly even the planet, I'd be on board for at least SOMETHING at this point that weeds out the MAGA goofies.

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
It would be racially biased. And a lot of people of color would be disenfranchised.

Republican will pass laws that make the test available in English only.

A lot of voters aren’t ignorant, they either don’t give a shyt or are racist/biased towards a particular ideology/thought and will slant anything to reinforce that viewpoint.

We have failed at educating our country to make good voting decisions. We will suffer until we do

and how to avoid misinformation.
"Governor DeSantis has signed a law forbidding the teaching of Anti-Fox News rhetoric."

a sobriety test :mjlit:)
Lets do it the Persian way. Vote once drunk, vote once sober.

we should be coming up with ways to get more people voting. the country is not improved by reducing leadership to an ever smaller subset, no matter how smart that set is. some smart people are evil, selfish, or ignorant of things outside their experience

i am a big proponent of education, however. k-12 should be giving us the basics and we should have more philosophy at earlier ages. still, there should be no tests. voting is a right and a duty, not a privilege
