Should we refrain ourselves from using the word "nikka"?

How do you feel about the N word? Do you think it's a term of endearment, or it's still a negative word because of its previous history? Do you believe if black people stopped using the N word, we would be treated with more respect? (Not my beliefs just repeating what someone said in another thread). Do you think other ethnicities (white, Mexican, etc) have the right to use the N word? Discuss. Many former athletes such as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and black activists have said the N word is detrimental to out community and should cut out from our vocabulary.

Personally, I try to use the N word at least as possible. I use it but it's not something I throw it every other sentence. Even if we stopped using nikka, it wouldn't change the way white people view us and won't end police brutality.

Yes do it I can't wait till we ban the word Nikka so that racism will finally be over and well have equality in this country, and they'll be no more drugs and guns and gangs in the community and it'll make Fathers have to be in their children's lives and end world hunger and it'll also find a cure for cancer and Hiv/aids

I don't toss that word or its variations around lightly. In fact, if you look back through my posts I can't remember using it here at all. I am a black man and I deal with black men and women from a position of mutual respect. The word is a term of endearment for some but not for me. I don't think it should be banned but I would like to see it used more sparingly. Like the F word it has a tendency to become overused and I think its ubiquity engenders lazy thinking.

It shouldn't be used even amongst friends, you can't continue to refer to each other as trash and expect to be respected. The word "ni99a" isn't just a word synonymys with friend or used to denote someone you have brotherly ties with. It carries a stigma with it now. For decades now the typical "ni99a" has been viewed by other races of people and even some members of our own as the stereotypical gorilla of society, a murder, a theift, convict, uneducated, will kill his friends for money or jealousy over a female, really doesn't give a shyt who he kills, hurts or how he damages our community and what's worse is the "ni99a" is blind to his own bs blacks wear this like a badge of honor "oh I'm a real ni99a" they promote this shyt which is why blacks stay down.

1. You can't "ban" a word
2. Trying to police the use of the n-word is a giant waste of time and effort. If someone says it in your presence and you feel you're being disrespected then check hem by all means, but you can't control what people say when you're not around. People are going to use the word if they want to, and even if they stopped the situation would still be the same.

My stance is: if you have to have to exclude a certain group/groups from saying it, then it shouldn't be used at all. Reason being that everyone is then going to draw the line on who can say it, when i.e only as a song lyric, etc differently. There won't be any consistency and another problem is how to reach a mass audience to have a real discussion about it. Every time I go out, you can always hear people saying it and that won't change anytime soon.

I use nikka in my everyday language.... I don't realize I say nikka, because I say it so much, it's normal to me. nikka in my vocabulary is a noun, as well as punctuation.... I begin & end my sentences saying nikka, even if I'm not referring to a particular person.

No other races are still not allowed to say it..... When a white boy says "nikka" it's forced, and it's pre-conceived he's gonna say "nikka".... it's just not natural..
