Depends on what you wanna do, you’ll save money.

I did it, but I had no idea what I wanted to major in and graduated, then come find out I had hella pre req classes I had to take to even get in certain majors.

I’m thinking if you go to Uni and you know what you exactly want to do, then maybe you can take pre reqs earlier instead of junior year.

And I also heard it’s easier to make friends n shyt if you start at a uni.

Depends on your situation. I did. Set me up nicely in terms of time to figure what I wanted to do and financially as well. Got that 4.0 and transferred. Now about to graduate from medical school.

I wouldn’t proactively recommend it to anyone who isn’t ALREADY thinking about it. But there’s no problem with it at all. It has a certain stigma to it but shyt I made it from there to Stanford. Go figure

give us more information bossman we can share our wisdom with you and help you find your way. I love mentoring and giving game to others bro. All we have is us

i think the stigma is gone because of how expensive universities are. I attended CC about 10 years ago and I remember no one really looked down it, and i knew a few people who got accepted to places like UCLA but decided to do 2 years at a CC first and transfer to ucla instead.

Yes

Unless it's paid for by scholarships or parents. You can even argue this for many ivy league schools if you are forced to pay/owe more than what's reasonable. You should be working full time or part time, using the money to pay for each semester, saving some for the following progression.

Large student loans will hinder the next 5-20 years of your life if you do not plan for it correctly.

I’d say YES. Unless you’re extremely dedicated and know for a fact you’re not going to have issues adjusting tot college. A lot of people go to a more expensive college and bomb out in one semester because they don’t know how to deal with the transition. There were so many people who fell off after freshman year when I was in college :snoop:

In fact, I’d consider living at home and driving to a community college for a year or 2. If I eve have kids going to college, thats what I’d strongly suggest. Unless they have the scholarship money to do it themselves, I’d probably insist that’s what they do.

Yeah bossman you know you may be right I acknowledge I may be jaded by my experiences of the past couple of years. Whenever I do outreach for from Oakland or EPA and shyt at my school, nikkaS surprised to learn I came from a CC even had professors Perplexed asking me if that was true. Moreover, I worked on the admissions committee for many programs both at the undergraduate and graduate level and bro you’ll be surprised how many times I heard admin bring that shyt up “this scholar went to a cc” as if it’s a negative thing. It’s one thing if they were talking about scholars doing prereqs at a cc and arguing that the rigor of the courses are less than that of a 4 yr institution. But truthfully their contention apparently was that they simply went to a cc.

But taking a step back you right especially mentioning how people are realizing shortcuts in reducing the costs of obtaining a higher education. The game is changing, and rightfully so

Brooklyn keeps on taking it.
Should you attend community college first, then transfer to a university. Or just go straight to an university.

If you aren’t sure what you want to do yet or want better opportunities to get a hook up to a university then please consider going to community college.

And don’t listen to people who put down community college either.

I'm pro-community college. For people who are gonna pay all of it out of pocket, people who haven't been all-in on what they wanted to study in college since sophomore year in high school at minimum, and people who don't have a good understanding of what is required for them to complete their major (intensive math or science courses in hs), going to community college gives you the chance to take those harder courses at a cheaper cost. Community colleges also have more lenient grading and withdrawal policies, so it doesn't hurt you as much if you get a bad grade and drop or retake the course.

Also, you can get a 2-year degree to have something to fall back on in case you don't continue or pivot to a different field.

The downside is you transfer into university without the same social network as other 3rd year students, but you save a lot of money. You can make friends as you go.

It makes no sense not to go to CC(at least where I live). Assuming your going to the state university, you can go to CC do your prerequisite classes for a forth of what you would pay at the university. So you take your “college experience” from going straight to university, and I’ll keep an extra 20,000 in my pocket :lolbron:

nikkas be too prideful to bust them little two years at a community college to start off.

I remember in HS they’d hit the :scust: if one of the small local colleges came through with info. Lot of folks just ain’t prepared academically or financially for that university life.

Seen mfs who went away to big state schools and was back after the first semester :francis:

I knocked out a lot of my prereqs at cc transferred them to my bachelor's and still got accepted into a top program in the state for my major. Why spend more money if you don't have to? Some programs will specifically state that you must do the prereqs at a 4 year, but ime it's not necessary at most schools. I didn't go to med school or anything, but I had no problems. A lot of CCS also have transfer programs straight into uni as a junior.

Also, this is such a lick...CLEP, DSST, and Excelsior tests. Most CCS accept an unlimited amount of these and you can still do the transfer option. I had over 60 credits from these tests. Some of them are so easy it's not even fair. They even have UL tests if you need to knock out electives that don't have to be major specific once you're in uni. Some schools will only accept a certain amount of test credits and transfers once you're in, so just make sure you meet your residency requirements. Saved me hundreds if not thousands and more importantly, time. Look into it!!

First off congrats to going through the med school thing. Saw my sister grind her was off in med school and residency.

On topic, I'd say community college is cool for 90% of people. It's cheaper for sure.

BUT, knowing what I know, I think you would be giving yourself a handicap if you have to put your app in front of pedigree conscious committees like admissions committees for dental and medical schools.
