All the hoods- African enclaves in Paris are on the outskirts/suburbs of the city kind of like the opposite of how it is here in the US. Most of the maps they hand out to visiting tourists don't even mention or show these these parts on the maps. They want and try to keep tourist in the city center as much as possible.

Marseille is a port town in the south so it has alot of African/Arab immigrants and has for the past 50 or so years. Racial tensions are higher in places like there and Lyon and Dijon where many of the immigrants settled. The suburbs of Paris are similar.
