This couldn't be less true
Yup, its not really close. In terms of style and development of skills, basketball has come an extremely long way.

I'd say baseball is closest to the early days than football or basketball in terms of playing styles.

Not only that but strategies, training, youth leagues/development, population. It's all completely different.

Plus it's not like cats in the 60s grew up watching players and emulating what they did on the court. They were making shyt up on the fly.

:childplease:

Somebody had to start doing off hand dribbling, crossovers and behind the back passes. It was revolutionary for the day. Those players couldn't defend it because they never saw most of that stuff before and lol at basketball being the same in the 60's as it is now, you got D-Leagues, more coaching at an earlier age, and advances in nutrition and training, now, and bigger stronger players playing now. Basketball existed before the Jordan era if you could believe it. Dude set the template for the modern point guard.

No disrespect to Cousy but I run point similar to him now except with more athleticism and a better jumper. Everything else equal he wouldn't even play D1 in these times. I know the training/nutrition/technology angles and that they helped laid down the foundation etc, and it's valid...but if we were to pluck him out of that era and into this era he'd be a YMCA all-star.

You wouldn't even know if if was legal to put the ball behind your back on a break if it wasn't for Cousy.
