Metacritic aggregate is pretty accurate imo. The few times I thought it was way off, I just needed to keep playing.

Some indies and smaller scale games can sometimes get inflated though, because the people reviewing them are usually the target audience for that niche experience. But AAA is on point usually.

Because they have to feed the algorithm click bait.
Apparently GOOD games don't exist anymore. Everything is either the greatest thing to grace this planet or absolutely garbage.
In the real world "getting it right" 70% of the time is great. Only in internet reviews is a 7/10 trash.
I'm not incapable of playing and thoroughly enjoying a GOOD game. Not everything needs to be ground breaking.

i watched max dood play a couple hours and it was looking like an OK game. didnt really make me want to hurry up and get it, though.

Game looks average at best. I beat the silent hill 2 remake a few days ago cause my girl likes to watch me play horror games (and its much more fun to do that than to watch horror movies we watch) and it was so tedious at the end, combined with their being 4 enemies the whole game, she enjoyed watching more than I enjoyed playing. The last few hours I just wanted it to be over. I dont have high hopes after watching some gameplay. Im not gonna tell her this game exists

2 remake lost steam shortly into the prison, but that first half was strong/scary

This... I'm watching John Wolfe play this and it's just not connecting with me so far. And, the fighting is clunky AF
