For example, Spotify says that its average payout for a stream to labels and publishers is between $0.006 and $0.0084 but Information Is Beautiful suggests that the average payment to an artist from the label portion of that is $0.001128 – this being what a signed artist receives after the label's share.
Finally, the per-play figures for streaming service can be misleading, as they depend on how many (or few) users the service has. Beats may pay more per-stream than Spotify, but that's because it has relatively few users.

All of that is irrelevant because people who bytch about the music industry do not factor in how much money labels gamble on "artists" to become stars. Those appearances on Jimmy Kimmel are free or cheap. It's all relative. It's foolish for an entity to put up all the money and its resources to say we're going to get even shares of the pie.

Dude this ain't the 90s when artists were getting massive advances and cats like Busta were getting a million dollar budget just for a video....

So what GAMBLE are they taking today??

They spend little to none on promotion on artists...making the artist utilize his own YouTube chanell and social media resources while the label just claim rights to everything

And as far as those Jimmy Kimmel appearances u act as if the label is going out of its way....dude labels have relationships with networks like ABC ..NBC etc.

That's nothing....even when the SALES are low...the label still wins cause they eat off the bulk of ad revenue on streaming sites..merchandising etc.

While the artists doesn't receive any back end payments if he hasn't established a publishing agreement

As a person that worked in an independent label distributed through Universal, it isn't just put up music and it sells. Relationships are about favorability not free. Once an artist is on, they fork over those accounts and some intern operates them.

Difference an artist should have more negotiation power now.

Misdirection is key. You think this song just blew in a grassroots way and he paid for his video out of pocket? shyt takes money and resources.

its real though.
Lables take L's from most artist.
They are looking for the few that actually bring in money.

Especially because once they find a hot artist...on the second album the artist normally comes back to renegotiate because now the artist has the leverage.

Silentos problem is that he's a one hit wonder, and everyone knows it.
So he has no bargaining chips....did he even write the song?
