Kobe show was top notch. How he broke everything down. Once he passed I guess espn didn’t find a replacement

The problems is Detail will always be associated with Kobe so its a hard sell to find a replacement for that show. As it was his thing and it had a short run. Might of been different if it had run for a decade. You have to find someone who has a high interest in X's and O's but also someone with high status within the game along with the charisma personality and presence.

basketball is a marathon not a sprint,
Y’all be trying to make the nba the nfl when really the nba is mlb
82 vs 17 or 82 vs 162

DjMe broke it down to a science, sounds like he has some expertise. Took the words right out of my mouth:salute:

You gotta understand, these shows aren't trying to teach you, they're trying to reach you.
The human mind is built to consume story structures: beginning, middle, and end.
Beginning is the set up, the intro, the hook--they tell you why you should care.
Middle is the conflict, where you're on the edge of your seat.
End is the climax, where you get the conflict resolution, and it leads into a new beginning.
The Harden Saga is a great repeating story line:
Beginning: he wants out of philly
Middle: cold war in philly "ill never speak to morey again"
End: traded to the clippers, leading to a new beginning
beginning: he's in LA, will he continue his same play style
middle: were living this right now, tune in tonight to see how it goes
end: playoffs, how will he do
This happens on a micro level every night, or at least, leagues want it to: every game should have a narrative leading into it, which is what the announcers try to tee up at the beginning, the middle is the game, and the end is the final score--some form of conflict resolution that hopefully leaves questions unanswered to be answered next game.

Analysis, breakdowns, all that shyt--that is a whole different level than how a typical consumer engages with a product, or wants to, from an entertainment perspective, because there's no conflict... unless you have a ridiculously, long, nuanced runway into each topic.
Like, the Pistons coach is running too many of one set of plays or whatnot--ok, that's the set up... thats the beginning... then the middle, you're calling the game.. he runs too many of those plays again... and the resolution is.....? Join us tomorrow night to see if it happens again?
Nah, that's not gonna hook people.

The media exists to make money. And the way to make money is to sell stories. And the way to sell stories is to generate conflict. And the way to generate conflict is through pettiness and interpersonal drama. End of the day, you don't NEED any of these shows, the announcers, the play by play, none of it. If you buy tickets to a game, you go to the arena, none of that is present. That shyt doesn't exist to supplement the product, it exists as it's OWN product.

Yes GritsNGravy you are right its about it being a marathon. Yes its 82 ganes compared to 17 games. But there should be way more stories within basketball. If there isnt a story there, the media used to create a story simply by repeating it and creating a narrative. Thats how you build tension among players and fanbases. The NFL is able to do this, where the Nba fails. The NFL does a good job creating rivalries, along with the help of players. The NBA and its players fail at this imo. Even the Nuggets and Lakers matchup had very little buildup imo. Media shouldve been instigating, calling Jokic "The new King:lolbron:". Maybe if they focused on more teams they would have more stories.

But you know why they cant focus on more teams? Because with "player empowerment",most of these franchises dont stand a chance of being interesting or worth paying attention to. This is why its the players fault, and thats just the tip of the iceberg.

Them being professional journalist mean nothing in the grand scheme of things because the majority of them don't understand the basic X's and O's breakdown themselves. There was a reason why someone posted the thread a few days ago of the Dolphins coach being genuinely surprised that a journalist knew the breakdown of his coaching system.

Every TV station out here can't afford ex players or coaches like television networks can, which is my point and why those social media people who also have their own platforms and podcasts come into play.

The journalist who breakdown McDaniels coaching system was in a press conference on YouTube. We are talking about National Television which is mostly live and with time constrains due to the networks making sure they get 5 mins of ad sponsors in.

The casual viewer isnt really going to take the opinion of a nobody social media influencer over an the ex player or coach breaking down X's and O's on TV. The TV Networks know this it's all branding and flash.

Theres plenty of out of work ex players who are looking for a TV gig. You're overstating it's difficulty to find because of pay. It really isn't. There's are plenty of lower tier/had a cup of coffee in the league players who are willing to work on the cheap. Thats why the local networks have players whove played in the city and still reside there after their careers have ended. Its like actors they are whores most will work for free as its a chance to showcase their talents/get their foot in the door when they are starting out.

This was allowed to air after Silver's comments. Actions over words, Silver. :unimpressed:

NBA coverage is by far the worst of the major sports but one thing that hurts breakdowns is basketball being a sport where one guy can take over regardless of what the opposing team does. When guys are making difficult shots, there's not much to be done defensively.

Steph gets hot and teams start trapping him 35 feet from the hoop. That allows the rest of the team to play 4-on-3.

There's a simplicity to how the very best players dominate and tilt the floor.

This has everything to do with ESPN giving us a terrible production of the game. ESPN is starting to become Fox News with how they do sports. Look at how ESPN'S youtube channel and see how they bold the word Debate on the title. It's small things like that they could change up to make that shyt better.
