Can’t. That’s the reason they want a tax on the betting handle and not the revenue. The leagues can’t make it look like they have a hand in profiting off the winners and losers of the actual games. Can’t say they want integrity and also offer betting or want cuts of overall earnings. Nba can’t have its own book, and then make more money off certain teams winning.
Maybe I missed the story that states the government wanting to put a tax on NBA betting.
NBA can't make a tax on anything and from what I read they are trying to profit. Could you send me the links to what you read?

The nba wants a tax that goes directly to them getting 1 penny from every dollar bet on nba games. The government already has built in taxes just like any other gaming business

Isn't tax an incorrect word and rather fee should be used?

Well I'm saying taxes cannot be implemented unless it's through the government and what merit would that give the NBA if the government is the one profiting (i.e. a government agency would be in charge of taxes and would get the offsers for controlling).
A fee wouldn't be run through the government and could be adjusted like I stated before.

You can word it however you want. Why should there be any fee? Also 1% of overall bets is insanely high
Never argued there this is a good thing. I was just merely stating that could and would change it from 1% in the near future after it's inplemented.

Wouldn’t increase because there’s already no room for anyone to operate even at the 1% fee. That amounts to over 20% of any sportsbooks revenue. Less state/fed taxes/operating costs there’s no profit. No gambling entity would bother

Absolutely it's high. But to say they wouldn't just isn't true. May not be much higher, but it would just give rise to only a few legal sport books which although would make them run on thin profits like a grocery store, there still would be money to be made.

But no sport book or average Joe wants this to go through.

It’s already razor thin margins. In a tremendous year books hold like 5.5%. Record breaking year. Most years it’s 5 or less. Less taxes and overhead there’s not much wiggle room. That leagues fee you’d be Giving away 20% or more of that right off the top is your profit. You’d be underwater most years paying it

I believe ya brehs. But never underestimate a hater. Even if there is some profit to be made, some folks will fight just to ruin someone else at the expense of potential profit.

"If I can't get what I want and I currently ain't getting it but someone else profitting, just burn the whole damn thing down!"

But let's just hope this is me reaching...

so if the legit sports books have to give the NBA 1% off GP, what's the incentive to not simply go with a bookie like everyone has been doing since the beginning of time?

You know they will block international ones as well as monitor site traffic.
