Trap is the most popular sub genre of rap now. But what are the similarities between it and other sub genres like Crank and ringtone rap?
I have this fear that trap will be extinct in 2 years due to oversaturation.

Basically, is trap similar to Crank and Ringtone rap (and other rap subgenres) in which it has a short period of heavy mainstream consumption and then it goes extinct in half a decade.

trap is an evolution of crunk but it seems to have a longer and lasting impact because it's sound(s) have been absorbed easier into pop across the boardin a way that crunk couldn't.

I feel like alot of modern trap production has alot of soca, jersey club, and dubstep/EDM elements attached to it nowadays that people are unaware of.

Trap has been mainstream for more than half a decade now
I don't think people realize it's more than some isolated sub genre
It's wildly popular and pop music is infatuated with it
you'd be hard pressed to find a popular album without 808 elements

Trap does have dubstep elements according to numerous sources.

What the hell is Crank?

But anyway trap has been around since forever. 3-6 has been making trap beats since the early 90s. The only difference is the bpms are slower the content is still the same.

And dubstep has trap elements. Trap has been around longer.

Don't let Illmaticdelta hear you say that. :skip:

The basic Trap sound doesn't have Dubstep in it

a little further back when it was still Crunk'ish

it's the other way around for modern Dubstep which is why and how it came back on the scene after it died in the mainstream years ago. Dubstep and Grime guys hopped on the Trap sound.
