The kinda person that's asking people they know for money isn't the kinda person that can really afford to ever pay it back. When you have your life together you'll likely have access to things like credit cards, an emergency fund, some type of savings or bank loans.

I just see it as if somebody ask you for something and you are ok with giving it and can afford it then give it. If he called me today I wouldn't even mention the money. If he asked me for more then I'd tell him he can borrow the $1300 he owes me though.

You've never been used by someone before? You have life experience and distance from his situation. To someone like that it's obvious. He might have honestly thought he was helping her. I've played that role before. Thinking I was helping a woman that I really was just enabling her to not get her life together. When my help stopped she got ghost and moved out of state.
