why are people NOW up in arms over this name? Its been the team's name for 80+ years, but 2013 is now time to take a stand? Nah, this feels fake.

It's a way to make politicians seem like they're doing work. The name hasn't stopped the franchise from being the 3rd most lucrative franchise in the NFL.

That's exactly what I'm saying. Peter king has had his MMQB for years, written books etc... Now he doesn't want to use the redskins name, it's coming off as very condescending & I would take this more serious if peter king wasn't leading the pack. LOL @ him speaking about the redskins name when he has been overly critical to black QB's his entire writing career & now he's all about fighting a "racist" name & is standing for "injustice" for the american indians....ok

all i need to hear.

change that racist ass shyt. They (the media) shoulda brought this shyt up years ago. I've always advocated for a name change on that team

Me being a fan of the team has nothing to do it with it. You're saying the media should've did it years ago, why didn't they is an important question.

:dead:

all this typing to try to rationalize you clinging to your squad's racist name. fukk out of here. :heh:

the shyt's horrible. no if ands or buts about it. it's even worse once you consider that DC is the nation's capital.

it'd be like having a German soccer team named the Berlin Kikes. :dead:

people didn't just start calling for the name to be changed. it's been called for for years. get your head out of your ass.

I'm not trying to rationalize anything. If you read my 1st post I said I think the name has poor taste and should be changed. But the question I'm simply asking is just about all of the major sport conglomerates in america have indian based names & some of them low key make a mockery of the culture. If we're gonna change the 'skins name, that's fine but let's not stop there.

you being a fan has everything to do with it...because only a redskins fan will try and detract from the topic by asking "bu-but why is everyone talking about it now" instead of reasoning why its an acceptable name. Because only a Redskins fan can justify the name like that in the NATIONS capital. As for the media bringing it up now. Its not the first time they've brought it up...this was a huge topic in 1992 after the Redskins were in the Superbowl. Protests and everything. Since then their have been numerous articles written about it, but they've always been swept under the rug and ignored by the NFL controlled media outlets. People have always spoken out against it but nothing really organized except for the group that has a successful lawsuit against using the name that took 7 years (that was overturned when Dan Snyder bought the team). Now that we have a black president...people are putting their foot down. Why its picking up speed is that you have Native American groups taking the NFL to court again. You have Congress members writing letters, requesting it be changed. You have the DC mayor saying that they won't move the team back to a DC stadium until its changed. The name is not beneficial to anyone. Stupid ass Redskins fans still wondering why they play in Maryland. They were gonna build a stadium in DC back in the 90s but a stadium deal wont be approved until its changed. So its not just about standing up to injustice... Its not faux outrage, its more utter disbelief that in 2013 America's most popular sport STILL has a team wit a racist ass name. Enough is enough B.

forreal, if it wasnt jackasses like Peter King and Mike Wise leading the charge and this felt more organic, I would be behind it.

Change it and move on.

Smh @ the fake outrage...
Where was this "outrage" years ago? So different writers in 2013 decided that now is the time to speak out against any injustice like a name change ....

So when would be a good time? A year from now? October of 2018? Maybe we could all agree to set a date and then flood messageboards and owner's email boxes with demands that a wrong be righted?

Native americans are almost obsolete in america these days.If they were deep like latinos or cacs I guarantee redskins woulda been changed that name cuz they would risk losing millions if people started boycotting

its pretty racist. if it was the washington spearchuckers it woulda been changed like at least 40 years ago. Senators would be nice if ottawa's hockey team didnt already have it.

And nothing has changed after all of these years. And it most likely won't ever change.

:wtf: I really don't understand people on here defending this.....
:why: oh you don't like "the timing" of when people are upset over it? Wow these apologist are too much!
The name is offensive and it should be changed, my brother is a like long skins fan and even he admits it should have been changed a long time ago.
People in here arguing that because people didn't defend trayvon martin that the skins should keep they name? :mindblown: how does that even work? and I can quote you plenty of white people who said Zimmerman was wrong but that's not even the point!
Wrong is Wrong no matter what and right is right
unless you're saying that you condone that use of racist epithets you can't defend this.

I'm not trying to detract from the topic, again for the 3rd time in this thread alone I don't mind a name change. But what I'm saying is now all of a sudden we have groundswell of fake outrage spearheaded by writers like peter king who once said doug williams didn't deserve a new contract for leading the very team this controversy is about to a super bowl win. I would advise you to please look up his old articles on black qb's. I just have to LOL @ that old narcissistic racist peter king acting as a surrogate for american indians.

Also you're making vague statements, that comment you made about it being a huge topic in '92 is wrong, it was brought up in '91(skins last superbowl).
Polling was done & different american indian tribes said they didn't have a problem with the name. Some did protest the redskin name but there were a lot of tribes that didn't sign petition or protest because they didn't see as a big deal.

And last but not least either indan tribes like commanche & apache either don't care about the name either way OR they think the mockery of their name sake is being exploited in all major sports. If I had a vote I'll change the name but let's change it all. If it offends one, the dialogue should be open to change it all right?

It's more like putting effort into sticking your neck out for other races when they won't do the same for you. The Trayvon Martin tragedy was just a recent example. As black people, no one sticks up for us when we're treated unfairly and most of the time will try to shift the blame on us. Native Americans won't do anything for us so I'm not going to waste time worrying about their problems.

and I can quote you plenty of white people who said Zimmerman was wrong but that's not even the point

And what did they do about it? Nothing.

that comment you made about it being a huge topic in '92 is wrong, it was brought up in '91(skins last superbowl)

Super Bowl XXVI (the Redskins vs the Bills) was played on Jan 26 1992

I grew up in the 90s as well...memories and nostalgia aside...lets talk more facts...after the Superbowl in 1992...their was the lawsuit...there was numerous articles...there was protests...there was polls...there was boycotts...there was letters...petitions...and the mayor at the time and city council members lobbied for it to be changed...it was a big deal...maybe not 9/11 big but certainly bigger than "the groundswell of fake outrage" (your words not mine) you have nowadays...wrong is wrong...right is right. Its time to stop making excuses or worrying about fake people. Certainly fake anger is not the issue at hand here. There isn't any ulterior motives for wanting the name changed other than racism.

I love when black people respond by saying "you'd be offended if the team was insert offensive name for blacks." Why couldnt c@cs come up with a tame offensive term for us, like "blackskins." :noah:

Indians get all kinds of tax breaks, I say tough sh1t. I like the name and the uniforms. Fukk Corn doe.
