The issue is Sony owns the damn format basically and they couldn't even put it in the Pro because they want people to buy the higher priced ones.

I mean from ps2 with DVD PS3 with Blue Ray and now Xbox One S with 4k.

Why all of a sudden the shyt don't matter since when?

your statement is half correct..
PS2 didn't push DVD.. DVD was already out and established
when ps3 dropped it was a format war with (oh shyt .. I forgot) ... sony including what they invented in the PS4 help Blu win

the PS2 was still a lot of people's first DVD player though. when DVD players first came out, they were like $600

4K Movies Dirty little secret, LMAO keep thinking you want a UHD drive and keep thinking you are watching a 4K movie.

When 4k Is Not 4k

Here’s the dirty secret about the industry’s move to 4k or higher displays: The majority of modern movies are either photographed digitally at 2k resolution or have a 2k Digital Intermediate. While it’s true that some movies are indeed starting to be photographed with 4k cameras (and movies shot on film may get scanned at 4k resolution), most of them still get downgraded to 2k for the post-production workflow. The higher pixel resolution of 4k requires a big increase in bandwidth resources that most post houses can’t handle. And, ultimately, most viewers can’t tell the difference between 2k and 4k anyway.

Only Sony appears to have a genuine commitment to making movies in 4k. Here are that studio’s Ultra HD Blu-ray launch titles:

‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ – Shot on 35mm, with a 4k DI
‘Chappie’ – Shot in 5k, with a 4k DI
‘Hancock’ – Shot on 35mm, with a 4k DI
‘Pineapple Express’ – Shot on 35mm, with a 2k DI
‘Salt’ – Shot on 35mm, with a 4k DI
‘The Smurfs 2’ – Shot in 4k, with a 4k DI

Also UHD blu ray drives isn't a entirely "new format".
that could be said about every form of optical disc

but is the difference between 'normal' and UHD blu-ray players only software?

You forgot the 360 with DVD :troll:
Isn't that the point, though?

MSFT gambled w/ the HD DVD format which failed against Blu-ray.

PS3 inclusion of the Blu ray drive definitely contributed to its success.

Also, when you think about the number of homes having the internet speed able to consistently stream 4K media...

In order for Sony to have gambled correctly in the home media market, they'll need:

1. Companies to slow down their support of 4K Blu ray
2. More homes to have higher internet speeds across the board.

It may be a misstep by Sony.

215 Uptown!
Times has changed. Most people don't care about Physical media anymore. I would much rather these systems be a 100$ cheaper then having a blu ray player attached that im never gonna use. All my shyt is streamed.
