There was a blockbuster construction project in New Jersey called Xanadu. People from the area might have heard about it since the early 2000s.



After multiple delays, pumpfakes, transfers of ownership, I think it ended up opening last year.

So, big splash projects not immediately panning out, isn't exactly anything new.
In developing countries, there would be other unforseen delays and hurdles.

I told y'all this was a scheme to wash money and, at best, chain a region in debt from borrowed international funds
Wish the people of Senegal could have gotten their hands on some of that money instead

just curious, but how would they use this to wash money. there must be better ways, a project like this would takes years and alot of hands greased. Seems like a risky way to wash some money when existing ways already exists

I was never a huge fan of this project but projects like these usually take long to begin construction. I bet there is still mad paperwork to be done.
The Burj Khalifa in Dubai took like a decade to begin construction even after laying it's first brick. them heavy skill projects in Europe take long to beg construction even after all the paper works are completed.

Plus Dubai as a city had to be bailed out by Abu Dhabi to survive. Building a city inorganically out of nowhere is a monumental task. nikkas is really shytting on Akon for “robbing the Senegalese people of hope”?
