It is a true reflection of what a subgroup of men go through from age 18-25. Moving through the motions, surviving strictly off of charisma, not understanding their purpose in the world, and getting themselves into life-altering situations (children with multiple mothers, crime, etc).
Baby Boy came out in 2001… shyt is amplified now. We can speak on the desperation and self esteem of the women put up with this, but I don’t care about them. There’s two particular men in this scenario.
Hobosexual: the entire plot of Baby Boy is centered on this. Easy ass, access to the crib//food/entertainment, no complaints from anybody. It’s the perfect paradise and this is echoed by his peers and society…. but is he fulfilled in his life? Is being a dikk in a glass all he can amount to? Some men jump off the porch and decide to become their own man, while others don’t. Those who don’t are exactly the men these women are babysitting and the ones who are responsible for these children causing chaos.
The
Other Guy: he reads posts, stories, and sees real life scenarios of this playing out. Despite his certifications, degrees, salary.. despite building himself to the best version he can be.. despite getting himself into a position that breeds a stable relationship… he simply lacks the
IT. Whether that’s soft skills, genetics, gift of gab.. whatever it may be. He tries to take in the advice to better himself but it amounts to nothing (in his eyes). Essentially, he has to work twice as hard for what he wants when someone else is barely putting in work for it. This boils to resentment, self-pity, or bitterness.
If I had children, I would tell them the world’s unfair
from a race, class, professional, academic, and relationship standpoint…. It’s the last one we (some people) have trouble understanding.
