Why wouldnt they? They lose NOTHING getting into that one sided agreement, its like a lotto ticket.. The man will be the investing party in the relationship and they can eject at any moment they are not happy to cash prizes..

Agreed. Feel like money drives most of this....plus the articles imply failure from the mom but the circumstances of WHY she's a single mother and how she lives make a difference.

Single only means not married. If she's cohabitating with a bunch of shady azz men, thats a good way for a kid to get abused. Then you got some women that have good relationships with the baby daddy and he's involved in the kids life...but she's technically a single mother.

So those stats seem more $$$$ based than anything. Kids from nice backgrounds would probably run a ponzi scheme before they'd rob a liquor store, regardless of one parent or two....see Bernie Madoff, Donald Trump etc.

1 good parent >>>>> 2 average parents that constantly argue and bicker with each other. Just being in a 2 parent household isn't automatically better if the parents are toxic.

This is a terrible article. The studies cited use a bunch of soft, meaningless metrics like "wellbeing" rather than the damning stats of suicide, incarceration, running away, dropping out, substance abuse, etc. He even said, "Being a child of a single mother is better than being in an abusive 2 parent household". Of course not being abused is better than being abused!

We can praise someone for succeeding in spite of their disadvantage while still acknowledging that the disadvantage is indeed a disadvantage.

Having one parent dramatically raises the likelihood that a child will he poor. The family has half the earning potential of a 2 parent home. The broken home caused the poverty that you believe caused the antisocial behavior.

I think they've got to push the financial aspect more. It's not single parenthood that causes poor outcomes...it's poverty.

2 good parents with no money is better than 1 good parent with no money, but both households will struggle to produce productive citizens compared to more affluent households.

It's typical American media to get us focusing on family values stuff but it's really a money argument. Middle class/upper middle class kids do better than working class and poor kids.

Pretty sure that American women initiate leaving and it’s usually over money. Black men leaving the mother doesn’t always mean leaving the child, and that’s when the details get murky. There are men that don’t care when they leave the mother and/or there are women that feel some type of way when the father doesn’t want them anymore and gets a new woman, so they gatekeep and lie to the child. We’ve all seen this


People need to understand that married African American do better in every standard than single people, especially in avoiding poverty and health problems
