Macklemore has freedom because his fan base is purchasing his records. 'Monster' is partially popular for the hook, sang by Rhianna. Not fully a white thing as much as you think with that record. Of course Eminem has the white people lining up but people who enjoy Rhianna also are buying the record.

There is diversity out there but the average Hip Hop fan doesn't want to spend money. They want to buy loud and bottles. People will always support catchy records over more conscious records but that doesn't mean Talib Kweli 'Get By' or CAC favorite Dead Prez 'Bigger Than Hip Hop' doesn't blow up from time to time.

Other than being much more catchy what is the huge difference between Jay Rock's verse on 'Money Trees' and what Skee Lo is saying? They are both 'keeping it real' raps and describing their part of Los Angeles. 'Money Trees' gets tons of spins and the album it is on is about a regular, non gang banging non bottle poppin slash money spending kid from Compton. That's the most popular album in the last year or so if you go off attention, sales, and awards.
Thrift Shop got spins before he even started moving units fam. Explain that to me. Can a nikka make a song about wearing previously owned clothes?

Thrift Shop the single itself, was getting purchased like hot cakes breh. Im not even just talking about the album going platinum.
How was people purchasing Thrift Shop if it wasn't getting any spins on the radio? Radio jumped on it first then people started buying it because radio force fed it to the people.

Because the way they even picked up steam to begin with is by touring and doing a ton of shows in on the Westcoast. That wasn't a new record. Much the same that Nelly sat on 'Country Grammar' for well over a year before the radio picked it up.

You've got 10 posts complaining and 0 talking about artists that are doing different types of music YOU like other than a song from 15+ years ago. If you were supporting and buying more records than different records would come out.

I like 90s music, I have plenty of posts talking about that.

So you were 7 when this song came out?

1995 out here in Los Angeles wasn't all that diverse. There was Skee Lo then gangsta rap. Not sure about the Bay Area at the time.
The Bay Area had Spice 1 and Too Short but also had Souls of Mischief and Conscious Daughters. The Bay gave hip hop this beautiful classic at the height of gangsta rap

The epitome of a "Keeping it Real" song. Can a nikka get mainstream spins today by rapping about how many L's he takes on a daily basis? I thought this shyt was real as a youngin and I appreciate it even more as an adult. Dude went totally left with it and had you feeling sorry for him by the end of the track. Classic 90's song right here

Easily 1 of my 20 fav rap songs.

I remember hearing this on the radio thinking "I hope this isn't me when I grow up." Back when I thought I would grow up to be an NBA player.

Fast forward to 2013, I'm 5'9" and I just got off the phone with a person that dissed my 1999 Honda Civic EX. :sadcam:

The Struggle is real, brehs.
