That was in the 90s when it was actually possible to make assloads of money from one hit. Not to mention when it was possible to actually sell records.

There were less than famous names back then selling over 250,000 records that would be selling 20,000 if they came out now. Just to put it in perpective. You have to consider this was before the internet was big and before music piracy (let alone the concept of digital music) even was a thought in anybody's minds.

There was a reason they were spending millions on videos alone. A hot single could generate millions of dollars. If he did the beat and had the publishing as well it makes sense he could've made millions off of it.
