Their genres are not rooted in street culture. Rap is.

And it's always gonna be part of the culture. Taking the street element away, changes it to something it's not. Hip Hop should always be intertwine with the streets. This is a rebellious culture. It doesn't have to be violent, I dig that, but it should always have that street element imo.
The blues and rock and roll are absolutely rooted in street culture you don’t know what you’re talking about.

All them nikkas was gangstas.

But realistically tho wtf was Snoop goin to do? U is a heavy factor and Snoop is a rapper. He'd be robbed and prolly had family members dealt with if he tried to do anything

And btw, if im not mistaken, this was allegedly the time Kurupt was dealibg with Tha Row again, so there was some minor issues between em at the time
Plus krupt reps rolling 60s. It’s not for snoop to get into

Other music cultures aren't rooted in the streets. You can't really compare it to other genres because the foundation of rap music started in the hood.

WHEN IT STARTED THOUGH.
nikkaS WAS JUST TRYING TO DANCE.

R&B, JAZZ AND EVERYTHING ELSE

Mad gangster shyt was happening when rap started. Clubs and Hip Hop in the parks used to get shot up all the time.

Ask them old heads about Latin Quarters and them block parties.

If you mean the rappers directly, sure, in comparison because the genre of music has expanded many times since its origins. There's probably 1,000 rappers for every 1 rapper that existed when it started. The more people involved in anything, the more likely there is to see a rise in violence/gangster shyt. Plus more money being pumped in is going to draw in gangsters.

Not to mention Italian mobs definitely made guys pay lol
Very true. gangsters always existed in music

But more specifically with Hip Hop, it was cultivated directly from street culture. Block parties and clubs that played Hip Hop in the 70s and 80s were mostly young black kids from the Hoods. This is when NYC was flooded with local street gangs and crime was at its highest and it was the youth spearheading rap music. It always came from that element. The crowds they drew were rowdier and wilder by nature.

The exact same thing was happening in the early Jazz, Blues, and Rock N Roll clubs breh.
