Why are all the skilled bigs getting hurt and ending their career in the modern NBA but thrived back in the 70-90'. Even with hgh,and today's modern medical technology being light years better than back in the days,potential big men like Oden, Embiid,and many others ending their careers prematurely.

Skilled big men still exist. The problem is that what would once be called skilled centers are now moved to the 4 and it seems like all teams want to do is stick some oaf of a big body at the 5 with no other skills for "rim protection." Think Andrew Bogut. That being said, there seems to be a crop of young and talented 5s on the come up, and I'd wager that the 5 position right now is actually deeper than SG.
