Have you ever known anyone IRL who's done it? If so, what were the effects of their actions?

You always hear about celebrities who bleach their skin but I've never known of anybody personally who's done it

I heard of women doin it for those color spots that some people have like that black back of the neck shyt but that's just to get their skin tone even supposedly

its a major issue with black folks around the world

they even got black children doin it too

on the motherland its a multi-BILLION dollar market, kinda like the korean wig shops in america...

the white supremacists been hustling... all this dough being made cause most of us hate ourselves..

I did it some years ago, my skin was getting blacker for some reason. It wasn't all over, but in patches on my face, a bit like Charlamagne.

I used whitening cream but it turned out to be tinea versicolor, a fungal infection so I used whitfield's ointment. Now my face is whiter than the rest of my body.

I remember when i was about 16 a friend of my mom did this. Her skin was light but around her eyes was darker than the rest of her face thus why i thought she looked like a rac00n.
I said this to my mom and my sister jokingly and somehow she got wind of it.
Mind you, at the time i was still learning english and had just moved here so i was not at all familiar with the term "c00n". In fact i wanna say i didnt learn that term until i joined SOHH in 2003 since i didnt have many black american friends.
But anyway looking back at it now i cant recall any issues, really. Then again i was young and wouldnt understand if there was. Remember Haitian kids dont gets mixed up in grown folks talk so who knows maybe there was some resentment.

Skin bleaching is taboo/socially unacceptable and so many (including manufacturing) call it "toning".

Overwhelming majority of African-Americans don't do that.

Most black people more so chick that I've run across have used some kind of skin lightening cream or other. No not to get 3 tones lighter, but to get rid of dark spots, black head scars and stuff light that.

I don't even know if you can really consider that bleaching.

I even know a couple of guys that have when it comes to razor bump scars....I can't call any of that self hate.


Now when you lightening up your skin just to be lighter...

Good post. It basically summarizes skin bleaching in one fell swoop.

The white woman in the video was probably feeling good after hearing them say that.

Interesting how white supremacists have went so far with their crap that they even monetized self hate.
