Try this:

-Look out for beef bogos at your local markets.

-Lookout for mock tenders, sirloin tips even skirt steak

-Buy eggs always eat at least 3 at a time.

-Eat steak and Eggs as your first for and as your last meal of the day. Even your 2nd meal if you can.

-Lift weights. Focus on compound lifts. ( Bench Press, Deadlifts, Shoulder Press, Squats)

-Don't play basketball or do any cardio.

-Try doing this for 8 weeks.

You should make gains of at least 6-8 pounds.

That ain't a full diet, I'm sure if you tryna gain weight you supplement the beef, eggs with other foods depending on how strict you are about it. Fruits, vegetables, rice etc.

Weight gaining ain't hard, but it's not something you can be lazy about. As soon as you start counting calories and get in 3,000+ calories a day, you'll see results.

It's work for sure though getting all that food in.

5x5 is a good starting routine if you've never hit the gym before, will get you those initial gains as you familiarize yourself.

The gym subforum on this board also has an excellent albeit small community where you could ask for more specific questions.

What about protein shakes? And why no cardrio.

Protein shakes are supplements. A lot of people go into exercising thinking that supplements are like cheat codes or shortcuts to making gains, but they just SUPPLEMENT your diet. This goes for anything else like creatine and etc.

Like @----- said, you want to get your intake from whole foods rather than protein shakes.

Cardio is generally not done when you're trying to gain weight, although I know I personally feel like shyt if I don't do cardio with my weightlifting. Again, if you're solely trying to gain weight, you can probably do without cardio, but definitely try to add a cardio routine over time.

Have also heard that HIIT is great for building muscle/cardio, never done it myself tho.
