They fail upwards as white being a prereq. Everything else is a bonus to them.
We don't have that luxury in any sense. If we as a black woman/man fail at anything we pay very harsh penalties. ESPECIALLY if it's something white people THINK we SHOULD be good at like sports. 
It's even worse if it's within Corp America or Leadership positions if we somehow "fail upwards" we will take the hardest fall and the most shame as a public display to shame all black people coming after.
