I just wanted to bring up topic that I think is really important and I've never totally understood. Let me first stop by saying that I dont believe in greatest players, I believe in tiers of players and not the GOAT, or any other bullshyt of the greatest ever. Saying that why isn't the sky hook emulated more. Unarguably its the greatest shot in basketball history( the fade-away has consistently been emulated, and actually started with David Thompson and Connie Hawkins just incase any Jordan or Kobe fan boys come in this thread). This isn't thread to hype up Kareem or anything, but I really think there is reason it hasn't been emulated it takes too much skill, and physical ability(height and strength) to master. I constantly hear the argument that its unimpressive move or for lack better word gay move, but D_Wade or Steph_Curry flotters are better? Really?:beli:

Are you telling me Roy Hibbert with 50-60% ability to hit a normal Kareem's skyhook the Pacers don't easily beat Heat?

Or ****, that If you had a son you knew was going to a legit 7 footer, you wouldn't make him practice the skyhook with both hands daily.

The fact that NO ONE uses it leads me to think the game has changed to make it an impossible move to use, because I doubt there isn't at least one big guy that would be using it right now if it gave them an edge.

Or maybe its just that hard to master.

Only the latter is true. Kareem has even said flat out to people who think it "can't" be used effectively today that that assumption isn't true - it just isn't being drilled and taught. And did you not see Hibbert sinking hook shots in the playoffs? Now just think if Hibbert could hit hooks with even greater range, more consistently, with even higher elevation. The fact is kids don't do the Mikan drill religiously like Kareem did when he grew up. You have to develop the skyhook at a young age, and be really committed to working on it throughout your career. You have to practice with it the same way Ray Allen practices with his jumper. Btw, Kareem wasn't the only player who had a money skyhook. Bob Lanier also did - so it isn't just exclusive to Kareem's body-type or anything either.
