That's exactly what it was too
I wouldn't even say "talent" - just nobody could do it all like Big
Jay was the closest but didn't really get it together until BP. And that was the album where he abandoned the please all audiences formula and just made heat with virtually unknown producers
IWW is grossly underrated tbh. Nas' pure rhyming was still Illmatic tier and his songwriting ability improved. I understand how the mafioso bravado could be jarring due to the project kid relatability Illmatic presented, but judging on its own merits IWW is A grade rap
both in my top 5 albums all time... but Life After Death is in my top 3 so that. outside out of 2 filler songs its the PERFECT mainstream hiphop album. it has tracks you could play in any setting, its probably the album i would give to someone listening to hiphop for the first time.
Lets be honest Biggie got some of the inspiration for life after death from the Purple Tape and It was Written so credit due. With that said Biggie was on another level lyrically with that album. I think it was Written was a more cohesive album but Biggie was the artist that had the streets and the clubs going with equal measure and in all regions no less.
honestly its pretty equal ill go with iww tho cuz it has less filler and it doesnt have no pop shyt. but i think kick in the door/ ten crack commandments/ long kiss good night >>>>>>> most of iww besides i gave you power, affirmitive action and live nikka rap (p steals the show). Both are 4s in my book both have some mediocre average songs one song i def dont and nvr have fukked with is if i ruled the world. on Lad some songs beats sound to similar but its great for cohesion as well i guess. they couldve done that without making the shyt sound so similar tho ( for example Hell on Earth is cohesive af but the overall sound of the beats sound different.)
It Was Written is one of the most beautiful recordings ever put down. The videos, the singles, the production, even the booklet. The Dre feature. Nas was just on another level in that period.
