For me this is Dilla's greatest achievement. A perfectly produced record with some of the most incredible sample flips and drum programming ever heard in hip hop.

When I first heard it I wasn't that impressed. It took me years to hear the subtle nuances in every little beat. It might be a bit of percussion, a bassline, a vocal sample, but slowly it became one of my favorite albums. Perfect to stick on during a cool summer's day, or listening to every little detail off the production on headphones.

While the rapping is far from technical impressive the MCs the ride the beats well and never get in the way of the stellar production. They fit the mood of the record so well.

Classic, timeless shyt.

Had to bump this thread. Just a album full of freshness. One of my favorite releases - period. It's one of those "anytime" albums. You can play it around a breezie, spark up one and zone to it with the headphones, ride out to it on a summer day. shyt was the soundtrack to the summer of 2000 for me.

I like Donuts, but to me this is Jay's masterpiece.

production masterpiece.

and man if the o.g. version of "forth and back" woulda made it on here, :whew: it absolutely kills the lp version.

i was lucky enough to cop the cd version of this that includes both "fall in love" and the "fall in love remix", which is rare apparently.

shyt is far above Livin' Proof IMO cause i'll take t3, baatin and jay dee rapping about fukking bytches and dissing haters over lil dap and malachi rapping about anything.
