For me this is Dilla's greatest achievement. A perfectly produced record with some of the most incredible sample flips and drum programming ever heard in hip hop.
When I first heard it I wasn't that impressed. It took me years to hear the subtle nuances in every little beat. It might be a bit of percussion, a bassline, a vocal sample, but slowly it became one of my favorite albums. Perfect to stick on during a cool summer's day, or listening to every little detail off the production on headphones.
While the rapping is far from technical impressive the MCs the ride the beats well and never get in the way of the stellar production. They fit the mood of the record so well.
Classic, timeless shyt.
