Yes. I think Sly and the Family Stone is a little underrated as far as great rock groups go.

They are

and to be honest, they're the GOAT group to me

Their influence on music is second to none IMO

people often cite how much of influence James Brown was on George's Parilament Funkadelic, but George also was heavily influenced by Sly Stone

same as Prince, even down to how Prince had a multi-racial group with the Revolution. Sly's influence on Prince and his music runs so parallel.

It's crazy too

I'd say even within black culture, they get talked about less than their contemporaries

I think that may be because they never got back together and none of the members had solo careers to take off into superstardom

I feel like if they were able to have hits in the through the 80s and 90s, they would be bigger

Cause when you compare them to groups like the isleys or parliament-funkadelic, it's easy to see

It's harder for a group to stay on the public's radar when they lie dormant for years

They broke up for good around the early 80's, so only people who were around then or were old enough to hear their music sampled would know of them

I'd like to believe if sly wasn't as strung out, he would've been producing for hella artists

Would've kept his name out there for later generations

Yup!

Yeah, the drugs really ruined everything with Sly's run as a bandleader and artist.

by the 80's, Sly was touring with Parliament Funkadelic and Bobby Womack for giggs here and there. he did some shows with a band called the One Eyed Jacks too.

Jesse Johnson looked out for him too, by having him feature on one of his songs. This one of my favorite Sly features

another of my favorite 80's Sly Stone songs is his cover of Joan Armatrading's "Love and Affection"

damn shame it was on the racist ass movie "Soul Man" of all movies :snoop:
