I have to keep reminding myself every time I play this game, that it is not a serious fighter. It is unbalanced and filled with idiot spammers. If you take Smash Ultimate seriously in any form or fashion, you're a fakkit. Straight like that. It's a cute little game yes sure, fun little party game, but has NO, ZERO, business in the FGC.

It certainly should've leaned into what makes the game most entertaining, it's chaotic, party element. Them trying to force the game to be 1v1 is dumb and not nearly as fun as it is when it's 4+ players, all the levels and their insanity and other random elements. I seriously don't consider it a real fighting game and really, they (their stanky fanboys & girls) shouldn't have either.

I prefer the game with items off. I’ll turn them on for random silliness when playing locally with friends but even still, it’s almost strictly all items off.

I personally think when playing offline the game is amazing casually and good competitively. It depends what type of people you are playing with.

But still online is still beyond trash.

Why would one not want the items on? It adds variance to the game.

Do you play shooters with majority of the weapons in the game turned off? I mean, I know back in Goldeneye, it'd be a fun excursion to every now and then play with select guns, also for variety's sake, but never having them on ever?!

Imagine playing Wipeout with no weapons.

Imagine turning Twisted Metal into just a racing game, just cuz it's a game with cars, eliminating all the stage chaos and additional weapons and only play 1 v 1, when it's straight up meant for more players at a time.

Who plays Tekken with absolutely no stage change levels on a permanent basis.

These scenarios are what ya'll Smash community morons have "built" up, by striping away the very things that made the game.
