Personally, I don't really care but African American has the far better origin. Africa's name came from the traits of the continent and has very little malicious intent behind it whereas "Black" was a label created by the elite to drive division in the lower classes to maintain power. "Black" was basically the elite's terminology for "do-boy".

I'll go even further, black is a CAC made designation to group all people of melanated pigment into a basic group.

That's because they use it as an adjective.​

There's no language called black, there's no country called black, there's no belief system called black, there's no race called black.

I know I didn't list everything, but this is what gradually happened to us as a race over the last 50 years, when we fully started accepting Black, which didn't happen overnight, like many of you would think. It took a few years, even after James Brown's song.

Now you see why White people want us to keep calling ourselves Black. More of them probably want us to stay Black than us.

Black American is a cultural term.

White American is a political term.

The definition of Black has been consistent for a long time whereas white American keeps shifting as needed. Irish/Italians etc., didn't become white until it was politically expedient. The WASP numbers got small up north so they had to expand. Technically white included some North Africans based on how we do the census in America.

The Irish and Italians were always white.

Their were Italian-Americans involved in the "Age of Discovery" and early settlement of the New World my guy. "America" the name comes from an Italian. There were Italian colonials living here and serving as confidants to Thomas Jefferson and fighting in the American Revolution and shyt.
