Snoop Doggy Dogg - Tha Doggfather (1-8-7-Skillz Version).rar
Heres the breakdown on all the songs:
Gangstaz Life: This sing was done around february-march and was produced by Bobcat (producer of 2pacs holla at me, last wordz). Snoop scrapped the song after he began new sessions in september but kept the intro for the retail version of the album. The beat can be found on a Mista Grim skit.
Doggfather OG Version/Retail Version: The original was recorded in february 96 and the mix with charlie wilson was done in late june.
Up Jump Tha Boogie: This song was done in may 96 and features the late Roger Troutman and Teena Marie on the vocals. Contains slight jabs at the Notorious B.I.G. in the 3rd verse and is a mafioso-funk song. First appeared on a june draft list but didnt reappear again until a late september tracklist. Unsure if it was on any other dats aside from those two.
Change Gone Come: This song was recorded in march 96 and was produced by Soopafly & LT Hutton. It appeared on early drafts and was selected in the final tracklist up until snoop scrapped it last minute and added sixx minutes back to the tracklist.
May I: This song was recorded in the same session as change gon come. It was produced by Soopafly and features Lil Malik adlibbing on the original version. It was also present on early drafts up until july 10th 96 and was re added on during the final selection process and replaced by Freestyle Conversation. Snoop also used verses from this song on Only Move 4 The Money feat. 2Pac and Bad Azz (which is unleaked) as well as We Just Wanna Party With U & the original version of "Eastsiderz" with Daz & Tray Deee.
Head Doctor: This sing was recorded between late may and early june 96. Theres 3 versions of this song (This one, The version on "Dead Man Walkin" with Swoop G and Put It In Ya Mouth)
It was produced by Kurt Kobane and samples prince'"If I Was Your Girlfriend" and Mtume's "Juicy Fruit". Appeared on various work dats early on but not on an official tracklist until september. Features raphael saadiq on the hook, in a prerelease album review this song and too blacc were present on the album and were highly favored. There was a planned single/video for the track and although it was took off retail for failure to get sample clearances in time for the retail release date its still present in the albums liner notes.
Snoop Bounce: This song was recorded september 25th 96 and was one of the replacement songs for the 2pac features(possibly "Street Life" or "Out Tha Moon" (maybe even "Wanted Dead Or Alive" according to karceno). It was produced by dj pooh and samples Bad Boy's "Only You" remix. On the 3rd verse theres a couple lines from the song "Usual Suspects". The song was made after snoop met up with Biggie in ny after Suge was imprisoned following the Vegas shooting.
Eastside Party: This song was recorded in early march 96, it was present on all work data and draft lists for the album until july 96. It was produced by Daz(Theres also an alternate group version which features him and Tray Deee as "Tha Eastsiders").
Heard It Through The Eastside/Word On Tha Streetz: The song was recorded in late march 96 and appeared on various dats and early tracklists until july 96. It features Techniec and Bad Azz and was produced by DJ Pooh. It samples Roger Troutman "So Ruff".
Too High (Poly High): This song was recorded late march-early april 96. Features Daz, Big Pimpin' and Tha Twinz. Appears on dats and tracklists all the way to september 96. Another track produced by LT Hutton and mixed by Daz. Was removed from final sequencing for unknown reasons. But you can here the end of the song at the beginning of "Doggfather Interlude".
Midnight Love: Was recorded late june 96 in the same session as "You Thought" and "Definition Of A Homeboy". It was produced by Soopafly and mixed by Daz and features a verse from him with Raphael Saadiq on the hook. Bad Azz was also supposed to be featured on the song but he was taken off with Snoop spitting his verse instead. Was present on a work dat from july and possibly on one of the other draft lists. On the ones available it shows up on a september tracklist. Highly considered for retail and was released as a promo in late 96. When the album dropped the following month people were lookin for it only to find out snoop moved it to the shelved "Doggumentary" album.
The Genie: The songs concept was done by Bad Azz as well as the hook, with Verses by Snoop. Bad Azz is also on the background Vocals. The song was produced by LT Hutton and also features Bo Roc. It was done in late spring 96 in the same sessions as "Stone Cold Corleone". The song was scrapped early and doesnt appear on any other dats for the album. This is another song where the mixing kinda drowns snoops vocals.
Vapors OG Version/Retail Version: Originally recorded the night Pac and Suge went to Vegas. It was produced by Battlecat featuring Charlie Wilson and Teena Marie. This version was to appear on retail but was replaced the very last minute with the DJ Pooh version which was recorded in october 96 and moved to the scrapped "Doggumentary" EP.
Groupie: Recorded august 29th 96 and originally intended for Tha Dogg Pound's West Coast Aftershocc" album and produced by Daz. It served as a replacement for either "Just Watchin" or possibly "Midnite Love" due to its absence on the september 26th tracklist and groupie first appearing on there.
2001: Recorded late february 96, written by Bad Azz, Threat & Kurupt with Nate Dogg harmonizing on the original version featured on the 20th Anniversary Edition. Appeared on an early tracklist alongside "Keep It Real Dogg" as a remix/part 2 type song and was removed by june 96 and readded in september.
Wanted Dead Or Alive: Recorded april 96 maybe even earlier in january/february as far as Pacs vocals are concerned, Snoop didnt get on until later along with Charlie Wilson. The song was produced by Daz & features Charlie Wilson & Val Young on the vocals. Originally this was one of the songs done so the album could have a Pac feature on ("Out Tha Moon","Just Watchin" etc.) but it wasnt revisited again until after Pac died and Snoop went back to add the RIP shoutout. In that same session is where the track with Biz Markie was done and the other version of "Vapors" (DJ Pooh version was fully mixed down and mastered) This song replaced "Street Life" on the "Gridlock'd" soundtrack. It was supposed to be a "sequel" to "2 Of Amerikaz Most Wanted" but it doesnt appear on any work dat or drafts for the album.
Just Watchin: Recorded june 96 and features 2pac, Tha Dogg Pound and Charlie Wilson. It was produced by Daz and was one of the multiple features slated for the album and possibly the only originally planned Pac feature. After his death the song "Groupie" replaced it. Snoop had mentioned the reason he removed the track from the final retail was him not being able to celebrate the album with his homeboy 2Pac. It was to supposed to be the closing song on the album.
Snoops Upside Ya Head: Produced by DJ Pooh and features Charlie Wilson. It was released september 13th 96 the day 2pac died but didnt appear on any of the dats until september 16th. This means the song had to be done the day they got back from the VMAs or a few days after. Song contains disses at biggie, and other artists involved in the "east-west feud", Snoop felt that it was a strong lead single, when released it got a good response then the hype died down rather quick, he then recorded the remix with Nate Dogg produced by Soopafly in late september 96 and was gonna put that on the album but instead moved it on the "Vapors" single as a B-Side.
Dogg Collar: Recorded march 31st 96 produced by LT Hutton. Features Bad Azz and Big Pimpin' and was present on all dats and tracklists until september where it was replaced by doggyland. Great song, its believed it was removed due to sample clearences but "Doggyland" also contain samples from Michael Jackson. Snoop spoke on this song regretting not putting it on the final retail.
Keep It Real Dogg: Produced by Daz and LT Hutton. It was recorded april 96 and is the solo version of the LBC Crew track. It was present on all dats and draft lists up until september 96. Contains disses aimed at Biggie(one of the very few jabs he threw at him ie. "Sixx Minutes", "Up Jump Tha Boogie","Snoops Upside Ya Head". At one point it was present on the same draft list as "2001" but after Pacs death Snoop removed most of the obvious Biggie disses from the album.
I Will Survive: Fatures Techniec, KV & Kurupt and was produced by Soopafly. The version to appear on the album can be found on "Dead Man Walkin". The song was recorded march 1st 96 and was present on all dats and drafts until september of that year where it was replaced by "Freestyle Conversation".
Street Life: This song was recorded february 96 (Solo version with Prince Ital Joe, Pac didnt add his verse until june when Snoop was looking to get Pac features on his album, along with "Just Watchin' and "Out Tha Moon" Pac added all his verses that same day. Originally it was intended for the album early on but was then moved to the "Gridlock'd" soundtrack. 2Pac spoke on the song in an interview, but soon after, it was moved back to "Doggfather" then replaced by "Snoop Bounce" or possibly "Me & My Doggz", then moved back to "Gridlockd" again only to be shelved. Snoop played the song on radio once back in 96, it was produced by Daz & LT Hutton.
Downtown Assasins: Written by Tray Deee and produced by Daz, recorded september 14th 96.
Some more breakdowns on the other songs recorded during those sessions, Im gonna split it into the various projects they were released on:
Dead Man Walkin:
C-Walkin: The OG version samples The Beastie Boys' "Paul Revere", it was released on the "Smokefest 96" album/bootleg. The song was on the final retail tracklist for "Tha Doggfather" but they took it off weeks before the release. It was later remixed by 187 for "Dead Man Walkin". The OG versionw was produced by L.T. Hutton and Snoop and mixed by DJ Pooh.
Hit Rocks: This track was recorded in 1995 and was the first song recorded for "Tha Doggfather". It was also intended to be the first single according to Dr. Dre in a Source Awards pre show interview in 1995, the song can also be heard on "Dogg Pound Gangstaz'" outro on the "Dogg Food" album. It was released in OG form on "Dead Man Walkin" but later it was re-recorded and remixed by DJ Quik in 1999 for the "Top Dogg" album.
Tommy Boy: This song was released on the "Smokefest 96" album/bootleg and was present on all drafts and early tracklists until Snoop started new recording sessions in sept 1996. The song was produced by Daz Dillinger and also features him along with Soopafly on the outro.
Too Black: Produced by L.T. Hutton and present on all drafts and tracklists for "Tha Doggfather" until it was removed a month prior to release. Along with "Head Doctor" a snippet can be heard on the intro of the song "Groupie".
Gangsta Walk: This song was on early drafts for "Tha Doggfather" but was later replaced by "C- Walkin". It was then moved to the "Doggumentary EP" and finally released on "Dead Man Walkin". The song was produced by Daz Dillinger.
County Blues: This song was re-recorded in 1996 for "Tha Doggfather". It was produced by Daz Dillinger and originally was in the albums retail presequence until Snoop replaced it during the new sessions in sept 1996. It was later released on "Dead Man Walkin" in OG form. Snoop actually did a similiar song back in his underground days and reused some of the lyrics on here.
My Favorite Color: Not much is known about this track except that its a possible early "draft" of "Too Blacc". It was produced by L.T. Hutton and was retouched by 187 for "Dead Man Walkin"
After the recent 20th anniversary leak with some unreleased songs we finally got the intro song so I'm finally able to include that one.
